It's just an album of solid catchy Cheap Trick-esque hard rock. I think their induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame around the album's release served as a coincidental promotional tool for the album and even for the band in general. Finally gave this a listen against my better judgement given that I loved Cheap Trick back in the day. Oh well, my better judgement won. Sorry boys, but this is just lame and derivative. 40 years later and their style hasn't moved one inch. I had to go listen to their first 3 albums again just to clear this mush out of my ears.

Only No Direction Home had any spark for me and that

Only No Direction Home had any spark for me and that was just okay. Fans should pass on this one and just enjoy the old stuff.

It has always eluded me why Cheap Trick isn't as popular as AC/DC, a band who started about the same time and, for a period, shared much the same career path. They are way more accessible to mainstream music fans and arguably, they have been way more consistent in the quality of their music AND they haven't had to endure (until now) the loss of a single member.

Bang Zoom Crazy Hello is an excellent record from beginning to end and stacks up with any of their heyday releases.

Bang Zoom Crazy… Hello, their 17th album and first since 2009, is the latest in a number of stillborn attempts to recapture those glory days.

The group's 17th album sounds as fresh and over the top as anything it's ever done. [No. 130, p.55]

There are times when you want to will a veteran act’s new album to be exceptional, just because their career standing seems to dictate it should be so. Well, Bang, Zoom, Crazy… Hello requires no act of charity. It really is that good.
