  • Summary: El-P and Mr. Lif guest on Aesop Rock's second LP for the Def Jux label.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 13 out of 16
  2. Negative: 1 out of 16
  1. It helps to enjoy Aesop's oscillating growl simply as an instrument, considering it may take months before his endless, seemingly im-parse-able, might-be metaphors start making sense.
  2. There's no question Aesop Rock makes essentially no sense half the time. The other half, he's painting abstract art all over fractured soundscapes. The music is smart and progressive; it's also pretentious and challenging.
  3. Bazooka Tooth simply pushes too far.
  4. Way too much of Bazooka Tooth is purely ego nonsense.

The man with the magical bag of raps is back, and his jukkie friends are with him again. The pied piper of rap is now officially made his way to the front gate of commericial hip-hop and is ready to blow it down with his bazooka-tooth. Expand

Ace Rock is a man apart. Others may have similarly intelligent raps, others may have equally as impressive and progressive production, Others rapping style may be just as singular and unique. But Aesop Rock is a 10 in all categories. And Bazooka Tooth exemplifies this as well as all his previous LP's and EP's. Expand

"Bazooka Tooth" is a solid album, but in the shadow of its predecessor, "Labor Days," it leaves something to be desired. Some of the sampling is a little too dense and busy, but its all worth it to hear 11:35. Ace Rock is still a master poet. Expand
