It's Ellie's best work so far, powerfully and sadly she writes in a pretentious and satirical way of her career.

Ellie's 2020 LP is a very mixed bag. There are some GREAT pop cuts on this record, but the others are ruined by awful production and vocals. The features are also surprisingly good.

It is 'over produced' and what could have been great then drifts into trite, tough. Like the inedibility of a rubbery steak. Surely Ellie can hear this herself.. or perhaps her love for EDM and time with Calvin Harris have blown her ear drums. Less would have been so much more and this could have been...well perfect... which makes it a slightly disappointing and irritating listen overall. Once more with feeling comes to mind. 'Love I'm Given', 'Tides', 'Wine Drunk' 'Slow Grenade' are examples of this gloss that is so glossy its plastic. Who doesn't hate a wasted opportunity! This album is an amazing work of art that really portrays the powerful talent that Ellie Goulding harnesses in song writing. The instrumentals magically match the lyrics being sung and it creates a very emotional experience that every listener can relate to. Anyone who says otherwise about this album is on crack.

It is really hard to enjoy at the first listen, but with 2 or more it turns into an awesome experience!
The first part of the album is more personal and ''alternative'' than the second one, which makes the album more interesting and fun to listen to. My favorite songs are: ''Close to Me'', ''Tides'' and ''How Deep is Too Deep''.

Maturity. This whole album offers so much variety. Ellie is at her most vulnerable with tracks like Woman and Flux. But somehow she managed to add some positivity and optimism track like the title track, Brightest Blue. Double sided album doesn't really work that well, but this one does; and it's beautiful. My fav work that Ellie has ever put out so far! Cheers to her best album yet!

Unfortunately, she seriously failed in that. The album is divided into two parts, according to her: the first, “Brightest Blue,” shows the tracks composed by her in her most unique essence, while the second, “EG.0,” combines the singles already released, collaborations and the songs written by Ellie’s alter ego. You will hardly see it or feel it. While the first part is relatively slow, sluggish and tedious, the second has more lively tracks, however, which do not go far beyond songs that follow a standard mold—that is not so current anymore— to be among the most played. It is really sad to see that after 5 years, Ellie shows us a project full of tracks without personality that, despite having well written lyrics, are drowned out by a sonority that struggles to be relevant and captivating in nowadays."

Goulding has confectioned all this blue feelings she has been having lately in her newest album "Brightest Blue", an interesting trip to a broken heart. The album is separated in two (let me say) volumes; the first one being the album in its own and the second one being a moderate-successful singles collection that don't make any sense at all and do not compliment the essence of the first part of the album. Commercially talking, Goulding has taken the risk to break the album in two deals in order to earn a platinum certification faster than expected. What a trashy idea to be honest.
As said before, "Brighest Blue" is a sonic voyage to a broken heart and a depressed soul. Goulding has bet for a more R&B orientated music and, honestly, it fits her very well. By entering this genre, the singer's voice feels smooth and more beautiful than ever. It just fits her very well. The concept of the album is very nice and mystical. She tries to tell us how arriving to paradise means going through a path of silence and pain. She tells us that everything is like nature, which flows with time and space despite sometimes collapsing in the shape of earthquakes or tsumanis. Earth may be flooded or burned down, but the grass will flower again. Paradise has been re-named "Brighest Blue" in this album, which is the final track. The other songs explain every step taken by her in the journey to happiness. The sound of it is calmed, blue and gratifying, accomplishing its objective. Goulding's voice balances between horror, sadness and joy, complimenting the album perfecty. The final track is triumphantly glorious, just beautiful. However, this does not mean the album is a musical masterpiece since the digital transition from volume 1 to volume 2 is disappointing, glitchy and horrendous since it breaks the sense of it all. I really hope that whoever had the idea of making a second volume gets punished with jail time, honestly.
In conclusion, "Brightest Blue" is a very great album of the English singer and, let me say, her best piece of work till today.

'New Heights', a painful monologue of soft vocals and instrumentals that exudes the longing for love. the guitar ridden 'Ode to Myself' shows a some of Ellie's thoughts which add an extra layer to the listening experience. 'Woman'. The bitter-sweet part of the album. This is because she beautifully expresses what it is that makes a woman but does it with a heartbreaking ballad. The switch that is 'Tides' builds up the hype again and lets you see that she is a versatile artist. This is continued into the trippy 'Wine Drunk' which acts as a statement of truth. Again, she comes back down to earth with the track 'Bleach'. Like before, 'Flux' carries the same themes into the second side of the album. 'Overtrue' is a perfect blended and lowkey version of 'Worry About Me' which starts off the upbeat 'EG.0' collection. 'Slow Grenade' is a powerful and fun track that collides so well with 'Close to Me'. The electropop anthems in this section explore darker storylines. 'Hate Me'. A self-loathing track that expresses many emotions. Sadly, this means that the record is over. However, we now have a insight into Ellie's mind and mental well-being over the last 5 years. The first 2 tracks made the perception that Ellie Goulding has grown in musicality. It marks Ellie's effort to break through the constant sad-sad heartbreak song structures with fatiguing choruses that demented her on her delirium. But then comes the disaster upon the majority of the rest, especially the second half on the side A. Its side B is just feed for livestock of the mainstream industry.

i saw the high metascore and i really thought i’d like this... but unfortunately “brightest blue” is such an disappointment. there’s nothing much about it, no inventiveness, it all sounds similar to previous efforts by other artists... but still provided some bops, such as power, how deep is too deep, new heights, bleach and flux.

Album perfeito. Todas as músicas se encaixam perfeitamente com cada sentimento. Ellie não decepcionou seus fãs, e mostrou que os 5 anos valeram muito a pena.

An absolute immaculate masterpiece through and through. I personally loved 2015's Delirium and Brightest Blue did not disappoint. It was 5 years in the making but you can hear the vocal progression and also improved lyricism. Best tracks are Power, Love I'm Given and Brightest Blue.

Been a fan since day 1. This album is a lyrical masterpiece. She’s come very far. This album hands down is her best work she has done. From empowering chants in “Power” and “Woman” to the EDM style of “Love I’m Given” and “Brightest Blue” she raised the bar incredibly high. The album flows so eloquently with deeply personable and relatable songwriting. She knocked it out of all the parks.Been a fan since day 1. This album is a lyrical masterpiece. She’s come very far. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ellie’s songwriting is at her best on “Brightest Blue”, she delivers an emotional album following her rough marriage as she sings about the pain she went through and her feelings before, after and during. Possibly her best work yet she delivers ballads and bops to switch it up and show that she’s still got the dance music with her.

I just fell in love with the album. Her voice is so delicate and powerful at the same time and lyrics are so deep. She deserves much more recognition.

If you've heard her previous works, you can realize how much her writing has evolve. Brightest Blue contains lyrics more mature and honest. Favorites so far include Start, How Deep Is Too Deep, Flux & title track Brightest Blue.

I'm surprised how much I like this album, after Delirium I didn't expect this album to be that good, but it is, Ellie has given us art and I love it, I can't stop listening to it.

Clearly this is an album that contemplates Ellie's essence as a singer / songwriter. The first part of the album connects us to Ellie that we know in Lights, Halcyon. Ellie presented the world with a sonority that mixes the symphony of an orchestra, electronic footprints and its angelic voice. Definitely Brigthest blue will be a timeless album.

A full journey into a relatable state of mind that comes after a breakup. Anger, sadness, resignation, self-esteem and happiness are some of the feelings that Goulding portraits in her newest album. A complete reflection of Goulding's evolution as a person and as a musician.

Goulding returned with strong and sincere lyrics. Their sounds all match the album. The blue concept tries to tell us how wonderful it is to express your frustrations in music.

This is the music she’s truly wanted to make. Songs like “Start” and “New Heights” emphasize her musical ear and give a new but familiar side of the songstress that we fell in love with. The three interludes on the album also do a phenomenal job connecting the different sections of the album. “Ode To Myself” is a standout track, going for an ethereal trip through the sky with gracious backing vocals and adlibs. Every song, no matter the style, connects with each other to tell a stunning story about Goulding’s journey in spirituality and appreciating herself as a woman in control. Expand

Ellie Goulding delivered one of her best work, probably the best. She deserves a Grammy for Brightest Blue. The lyrics of each song are so personal and touching. Love I'm Given is one of the best tracks she ever made.

I’m genuinely confused.. this album feels so subpar compared to her other bodies of work. Lights, Halcyon, those sounded so fresh, new, and innovative. Brightest Blue is just a disappoint for me. I waited five years for this and I just feel like it’s just not even comparable to her other albums. Ellie Goulding's new album is perfectly suited to today's music, without being so pretentious. It’s the perfect syncretism between the essence of Goulding, current pop, some hip hop influences and electronic music. It’s perfect.

While Blue is thoughtful and beautiful, it’s a drag to sit through. The interludes have more personality than the full-length songs.

For the most part, she doesn’t have the chops or soul of contemporaries like Florence Welch, who sings of similar subject matter with a real torch, and who shares a collaborator in Joseph Kearns, who produced almost every song on Brightest Blue. At Kearns’s behest, the album takes a relatively new tack for Goulding, trading the garish for the palatable, but it’s no less grating as a result.
