When Blake releases a record in 2014, not even a year after he released one in 2013, don't expect it to be good. 'Neon Light' was an impressive lead single, but while listening to the album, I wanted to be impressed by some other song, but i just wasn't. The whole thing feels rushed and impractical. Sorry Blake. The 1/10 I'm giving you is for 'Neon Light', and maybe the Ashley Monroe collab.

Bringing Back the Sunshine brims with horn-dog hookup jams like "Sangria," where he makes a sloppy hotel-room encounter sound like the modern equivalent of a trip to Margaritaville.

Bringing Back the Sunshine is competent, but its sheer lack of variety, and over-reliance on trying to recapture the vibe of his previous effort sinks the album in a hurry. Best to label this one for die-hards only.

A state-of-the art country-pop record, a modern update of urban cowboy that works because it never hides its soft aspirations but never makes a fuss about them either.
