What elevates this album beyond the simply cerebral is the simultaneous pop sensibility that pervades through it.

Cadenza is so much better than alright: it's more than a little brilliant.
  4. May 5, 2011

Dutch Uncles sound like a band on the brink, and there's enough promise here to justify interest in what comes next.

At its best, Cadenza is a thoroughly captivating listen. [Jun 2011, p.114]

The grooves might be intelligently crafted, with plenty of interesting rhythmical quirks throughout, but the songs themselves hold little water.
  7. As an instrumental album it's vaguely impressive, but overall it's incomplete and lacks the pop touch to transform things from cerebral to listenable.
