While not as strong as his latest album, IGOR, call me if you get lost is an extremely phenomenal display of flow, writing, tone, and just sheer talent. This is my favorite album by him just because of how consistent it really is and how powerful a lot of these tracks are.

The album is an emotionally charged exploration of Tyler’s life, and it stands as a testament to his artistic ability.

The album is filled with a unique blend of genres, ranging from rap to soul, rock to EDM. Tyler’s production is sophisticated and varied, creating a soundscape that is both familiar and innovative. He expertly uses samples and sound effects to create a unique sound that is distinctively his own. The beats are hard-hitting and dynamic, but they also contain a certain level of subtlety that allows the listener to truly appreciate the beauty of the album.

The lyrical content of the album is equally impressive. Tyler’s thoughtful, honest lyrics are filled with introspection and vulnerability. He uses his lyrics to explore his inner struggles, his relationships with family and friends, and his journey of self-discovery. His words are powerful and moving, and they are delivered with a raw emotion that is unmatched.

The album is a testament to the power of music, and it stands as one of Tyler’s greatest achievements.

gorgeous album from Tyler, the whole album sounds great.
lots of mood switching in this album, even a bit of genre switching with hints of reggae on "i thought you wanted to dance" and a more classic west coast hip hop feel on some of the more DJ Drama heavy tracks.
Great features, Great storytelling, Phenomenal album.

These are some of the names attributed to ultra-controversial figure turned universally beloved, critically acclaimed, and now Grammy-winning rapper/singer/songwriter/producer Tyler, the Creator. Tyler has had one of the most interesting musical developments of the past decade, going from two projects that could easily be perceived as being edgy for the sake of being edgy, to a vibrantly produced project which still slightly suffered from this style of writing, to Cherry Bomb (which I cannot describe), to his most recent three LPs.
In reality, Tyler was still one of the most polarizing figures in the rap game until his 2017 LP Flower Boy dropped, which garnered immediate success, most prominently outside of Tyler’s core fanbase at the time. This could be considered the start of the current era of Tyler, in which we can receive brilliant records like 2019’s IGOR, a beautiful and heart-wrenching break-up album that marks Tyler’s first foray into a different genre (Neo-Soul). If one were to skip from Goblin or Bastard (which I just refer to as better Goblin), to the current era of Tyler, the difference in sound would be so jarring that you wouldn’t believe you were listening to the same artist.
Ok this is cool and all, but why are you going into such depth about his musical progression without even mentioning the album you’re currently reviewing? Good question.
I think that reviewing this album in depth is fairly impossible without mentioning the course of his career so far, as if this album if anything it is a celebration of Tyler’s personal and musical progression over the past decade or so. Not only does he reference his older projects several times throughout this project, but he has created a project here that takes some of the best qualities of all of his albums and blends them tastefully into what can be considered his magnum opus.
Now, when I say magnum opus, don’t for a second think that this is my favorite project from Tyler. I think IGOR is going to stay as the peak of his career unless he releases an album that runs away with AOTY (CMIYGL isn’t that album). This is just the album where he pieces his entire musical development together to form REALLY good LP.
Here are some of my notes on the best things this album has to offer:
-CORSO has some of the most iconic one-liners of this project as well as a very nuanced and catchy beat.
-WUSYANAME has such an infectious beat and Ty Dolla $ign absolutely makes his presence known despite a limited feature. Anyways, YB betta

This album takes all of the best parts of his previous four works and combines them into one big album with a lot going on. Not the most complex Tyler project out there, but that's perfectly fine. It didn't need to be. Perfect for relaxing on the beach or in your car on a summer day.

Call Me If You Get Lost is Tyler's victory lap after the grammy awarded 'IGOR'. iGOR moved away from the rap genre, to explore more of an R+B/Soul sound, but on this project Tyler delved back into the genre that launched him as an artist. The track 'I thought you wanted to dance' is a reggae song, reinforcing the fact that Tyler has been able to excel in any genre he has chosen. Tyler's 6th Studio Album for me is a decent 8.
The vibe on this album is spectacular , a vibe that we never saw in each other Tyler's Album.
The melody for certain tracks , for me , are perfect.
However there are some skips on this album , that I will not mention for my own sake.

This is a perfect example of music being overrated because of the current status of an artist. Tyler, the Creator has been on a tear in recent years, releasing excellent albums one after another. He is deservedly a cultural darling.

This is a perfect example of music being overrated because of the current status of an artist. Tyler, the Creator has been on a tear in recent years, releasing excellent albums one after another. He is deservedly a cultural darling.

That being said, CMIYGL simply isn't up to par with most of Tyler's work. It's his worst album since Cherry Bomb. CMIYGL sounds like a 2010-era mixtape with extremely annoying DJ Drama vocals throughout the entire thing. The actual music simply isn't that enjoyable to listen to - the sounds and hooks on this album are mostly forgettable, even after multiple listens. Tyler's rapping is solid throughout the album, can't lie.

The biggest issue with this album is the production. The mixing is absolutely awful throughout the entire album. Vocals are not clear and beats are muddy. It's not as bad as Cherry Bomb but I would hope not as Cherry Bomb has some of the worst production/mixing ever heard on a commercial release of that magnitude.

Tyler has put out plenty of music that is mixed cleanly, so clearly this is a creative choice, and it's a really bad one. As far as this album winning a Grammy, that is a slap in the face to more than 30 hip-hop albums which came out last year that are all far better than CMIYGL with far more artistic value. A few of them are:

    1176 - Guapdad 4000
To Kill a Sunrise - Kota the Friend and Statik Selektah
    Clouds - NF
Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine - Brockhampton
    The Off-Season - J. Cole
    Planet Her - Doja Cat
    USee4Yourself - IDK
    Vince Staples - Vince Staples
The House Is Burning - Isaiah Rashad
    King's Disease II - Nas
    Certified Lover Boy - Drake
    Donda - Kanye West
The Melodic Blue - Baby Keem
Life of a Don - Don Toliver
    Asin9ne - Tech N9ne
    Murd & Mercy - B.o.B

Further proof that the Grammy's are a popularity contest first and a celebration of art last.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Following up the incredible and critically-acclaimed IGOR in 2019, it was a surprise for many to witness another great work from Tyler's imaginative brain, this time cosplaying as Tyler Baudelaire, a rich snobbish traveler that is chasing luxury cars and heartbreaks that now has all of the confidence in the world in him and it shows. Despite some tracks that seemed to be overblown and even numbing, this record features new heights in Tyler's catalog including RUN IT UP, WILSHIRE, WUSYANAME, HOT WIND BLOWS and JUGGERNAUT. Expand

This album is amazing from start to end. If you ignore the rather boring 9 minute song with Brent Faiyaz and Fana Hues, it goes by smoothly and has some of the hardest songs to date on here. Tyler is one of the best rappers of this generation and I hope his momentum doesn't die down for a long time.

Tyler has been on a bit of a hype train over the past decade. Odd Future were wreaking havoc on stages and demanding for a 17-year-old Earl Sweatshirt to be 'freed' what seemed like a lifetime ago. To Tyler’s credit, he didn’t rest on his laurels. Instead, he crafted a concise piece of work about a very confident adult realizing his own ego is both his best asset and indeed his worst enemy.
