Why this has a Metascore of fifty-eight while the pretty mediocre sophomore album has sixty-eight is beyond me. This album is fantastic. Great lyrics, strong choruses, fantastic climaxes, anything an indie folk post whatever rock record should have. If you don't have patience for a long album this isn't for you, but damn, if you like the style, you should check this out, it's amazing.

The won't slay any kings without more killer choruses. [Apr 2013, p.111]

There's no doubting To Kill A King's musicianship, nor their potential to be absolutely massive, but singer Ralph Pelleymounter's mid-Atlantic drawl is as irksome as the abundant lyrical truisms. [Apr 2013, p.79]

To Kill A King here seem ultimately still to be wrestling with the problem of how to make several different ideas gel together. They are at their best when it feels as if they’re playing just to you and no one else; maybe a bit of scaling down would do them a lot of good.
