  1. Loud guitars, gritty vocals, and more soul than a Sunday morning sermon best sums up Carolina.
  2. It’s a testament to the quality of the songwriting and the force of the band that, of his two albums, Carolina actually qualifies as the more distinctive one and the better one.
  3. Thankfully, though, the singer-songwriter imbues his work with real soul, and classic country fans could do worse than to worship at the altar of this Church.
  4. Unfortunately, the bulk of the record takes the opposite approach, with bombastic arrangements and dumbed-down, pandering lyrics that are too easy and too desperate for mainstream approval.
