Amazing penmanship by Mariah Carey and a truly outstanding production. Everything is contained and cohesive but by no means ordinary. The record is deceptively lowkey, but ask Mariah why all classics are so difficult to master. She sure knows the answer.

Caution reveals a mature version of the excellent songwriter/singer who mesmerized fans throughout 28 years of a solid career. Mariah suppressed the well known whistles and high notes and highlight the ability to make her low notes sync with the chilling vibe of the album. It's a must-listen-to album!

It's really great to know that a 90's diva managed to make one of the best career albums of almost 50 years. Mariah's always reinventing herself to get the best results in music, which almost always works out. "Caution" is an album that has an RnB mixed with trap, something that had effect in the quality of the album. Mariah Carey is a legend in music, and her 15th album confirms this again.

Amazing production that creates a hunting, atmospheric vibe. The song Giving me life is literally a masterpiece, a work of art. And let's not delude ourselves: Mariah Carey is master of her craft, one of the best singer-songwriters of all time.

It has been a lot since I do not like an album of her from the first listening and that was that happened here. She gave some electronic vibes to some songs making an album with alternative r&b undertones. I am more than happy with the result even if she did only ten songs.

    goddamn.....she truly delivered here.
I'm only now getting into her full discography, but I've always appreciated classics such as Vision of Love and Bliss. her last album, the often angelic Me I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse, brought some great synthpop textures to her classic lush R&B musings, and it satisfied for longer than the standard pop era, despite frustratingly being a flop.

I hope to immerse myself further in depth in her discography and I feel this is a wonderful starting point. highlights for me include the stunning classic R&B of first single With You, the smooth PBR&B centerpiece Giving Me Life, One Mo' Gen, The Distance and the album's most dazzling banger: A No No. it's an immediate highlight, and her harmonized A6 feels like a victory. it feels like that scene in an indie movie where a peak in a newfound relationship is flourishing. Mariah delivered. a Q4 stunner. will absolutely end up on my (as well as that of many other pop music listeners') best-of 2018 list. to all first time listeners (there have gotta be some out there): start with With You.

Caution is a cohesive body of work for Mariah Carey and serves as a solid testament of her ever-evolving artistry as a songwriter, producer, and vocalist. It serves as a shoutout to old-school R&B with the ability to sound modern and grounded. Carey doesn't conform to any trend here. She sticks to her sound but it is apparent that she isn't afraid to experiment with the delivery. After years of trying to recapture the organic brilliance of Butterfly and The Emancipation of Mimi, Mariah not only exceeds expectations with Caution, she breaks new ground and markedly sets the tone for the next chapter in her career.

Caution is a masterclass in restrained elegance with expertly written lyrics that put Mariah, the songwriter, in the driver seat. Gone are the vocal theatrics of her last effort along with any true attempts at Top 40 success, allowing the music to breathe without any commercial agenda. This frees Mariah up to experiment and boy, does she ever do that here. From the fire-starter that is GTFO to the sonic groove of Giving Me Life featuring the also-legendary Slick Rick, it is evident that Mariah is playing the industry game with a new hand of cards.

At 48, this is exactly the type of album an artist of Mariah's caliber should be making - one that reaffirms a legacy and changes the conversation about a talent that has been severely unappreciated in recent years. Well done, Mimi!

With superb songwriting (yes, people forget she is a singer-songwriter!), sexy low tones and soft high tones in her voice, Mariah showed us in CAUTION that she still got it after almost 30 years. She doesn't sound like she sounded in 1990, instead, she sounds how she should sound today. No one sounds or looks or performs the same for 30 years. People change. There are no pretensions or endeavours to recreate past critical successes such as Butterfly or Daydream (for they simply cannot be topped).

There is a strong sense here that the songs are justly served, showcasing Mariah’s mature and clever songwriting without it being upstaged by showy belts and runs and whistle notes. Most tracks have a feel-good, groovy vibe about them, all certainly have a great deal of heart and soul (as do all Mariah songs), with some of the most memorable hooks and lyrics in her more recent career.

It is substance without being heavy, playful without levity, cohesive from beginning to end. The quality is high throughout, and there is not a whiff of superfluity or insincerity about it. This stunning body of work is the result of a true artist’s evolution and it seems only a matter of course—this is exactly what Mariah Carey in 2018 would or even should sound like.

No. Mariah is an artist who has just been emancipated (no pun intended) from a very dark period of her life. This album spills out with bottled up creativity from the 'silent years'. It's also a change of tone for Mariah who is notorious for her girlish vulnerability in music... this album shows Mariah as a confident, mature woman who just went through some ****
It's a short, 10 track album but is void of any filler. Every song is ear candy and the songwriting is brilliant.
One last thing to say is this is the first post-90s album where Mariah fully embraces her voice for what it is today; any song on this album could be sung live with ease by Mariah. With endless recordings, performances, vocal acrobatics and age it is impossible for Mariah to sound as she did in her youth. The fact that she embraces this and isn't trying to fool anyone any more is amazing! She feels like an artist you can connect with again. And, by the way, her current voice can still run circles around most current pop artists.

It sounds like a culmination of its predecessors ("Looking In" from Daydream, "Close My Eyes" from "Butterfly" and hints of "Petals" from the "Rainbow" album). I do wish the album tracks were sequenced better, but great album overall. Expand

Truly her best album since Butterfly. Sounds fresh, without sounding desperate. The songs 8th Grade and Portrait are my favourites off this album! I hope it gets the recognition it deserves.

It's incredible her ability to stay current doing the same as always. Nice, Mariah. Love it. Although it counts on few songs, the album is very good. Quality is greater than quantity, thank you for teaching me that, Mimi.

The first few singles were already disappointing to me, very average unmemorable songs. The whole album has only 10 songs and the whole project is very average, even the better songs are forgettable and the whole album is painfully bland.

I'm actually really surprised by this album. It's so cohesive and yet every track is really different and fresh and still so classic Mariah. I love the way she used her voice and Giving Me Life is literally some of her best songs OF ALL TIME. Wow. If you will listen to this album, you won't be disappointed. Cheers MC! You're finally back!

Best album since Emancipation. Best track (not) on the album, Runway. Sampling Butterfly .... genius!

Btw, if you find the album a bit short, search out the remixes to The Distance, GTFO, A No No.

Mariah is my favorite artist of all time. This album is notably one of her best - up there with 'Butterfly,' and 4 years ago 'Me. I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse.' There are so many classic moments. Vocally, this is the best cohesive representation. If she were to perform the entire 'Caution' album live, this is exactly how she would sound. Another standout for me is 'Giving Me Life.' Such a genius way to sample 'Trading Places' starring Eddie Murphy. I did find that there were some moments leaving me wanting more vocally and musically, but I won't get greedy. Mariah is an ever-changing artist, and it would be unfair to expect her to stay the same forever. This will be a classic remembered for decades to come. Expand

Mariah Carey presents her 15 album and her music sounds fresh and sincere. From GTFO to Portraits, the iconic voice of Mimi walks through styles and phrases that lead us to a more elegant and mature R & B trip that she has given us in her career. The best tracks are GTFO, Caution, A No No, The Distance, Giving Me Life & Portraits. Caution is Mariah at her best.

If someone tells you that he/she does not know who Mariah Carey is, He/she´s obviously lying! This record is, contrary to all the stuff she put out lately, a sober but relevant piece of work thanks to the production which, without flirting with the exuberance of alt /nu R´n´B, brings some singular elements. It´s still mainstream and baked for wide audience but Mariah seems more focused in bringing effortless subtle, discreet and smooth vocals in order to put the music in the forefront, giving us the opportunity to catch on details. Listening to old tracks, I often had the feeling that her voice was always overhanging the instrumentals. I believe that for many fans, it was mostly the appeal in listening her music. They were, are still searching for that Diva touch through sugary romantic ballads & vocal techniques more than being surprised in the election of a new and daring artistic direction. I do believe that she took that step forward and the result is really fresh and surprising. Only 9 energetic tracks, each one quite effective and the strategic choice in putting the only ballad, her typical trademark, at the end of the track list keeping alive the groovy flow from track to track and giving the wrong impression that the album is short. I still believe that if you feel this way, when the music stops, it means that the LP is cohesive, strong and relevant. Collapse

Previously, Mariah Carey has made it clear that she’s been through too much to care what anyone else thinks, shrugging off critics and denying all drama. On Caution, Carey has channeled that energy into the music itself.

She’ll employ of-the-moment producers to add current touches to her tracks, but the way she uses them on Caution results in her fine-tuning her aesthetic, not bending to current playlist-friendly trends.
