Far more than background music, this is a reasonably static, and yet moving, listen.

Celestite cannot simply be characterised as pastiche, however, as the Weaver brothers and Dunn have constructed dramatic instrumentals using the material of previous compositions, ensuring a thematic and sonic continuity with their own past. [Jul 2014, p.61]

Celestite feels like it is more than just a simple companion piece to Celestial Lineage, and there is more than a Cascadian black metal band behind the subtle guitars and massive synths of Celestite: there is an idea that is beginning to take root.
  6. There are absolutely stunning passages on here to be sure, but as a whole the record fails to really take your breath away like one would hope.

Wantonly skipping between sounds with a dilettante zeal, Wolves in the Throne Room seem woefully under equipped for this music.

In their previous releases, they create a lot of ambiance in their post-rock moments. This album is similar to those moments, but utilizes more synth and stretches them out to full album length. It's a very gorgeous album. Creates a good reading atmosphere and especially a great album to stargaze with. Just don't expect to rock out with this one. Expand
