Nov 6, 2013If you're looking for a great Doughty album, this isn't it. There are some fantastic songs in his earlier catalog. In this one, he covers old Soul Coughing songs but completely leaves out the playful and quirky spirit of each one. The result is a mediocre collection of derivative alt.rock forgettableness.

Sep 27, 2013It feels like he's taking a step back; his covers album is livelier and more creative than this, perhaps because it didn't feel the need to live up to anything.

Sep 27, 2013Unfortunately, the bar set by these songs was an awfully high one, so although the creation of Circles… was no doubt a cathartic experience, the songs here aren't likely to become the first choice for any old-school Soul Coughing lovers.

Sep 27, 2013From the album’s clunky title which is simply a list of all 13 tracks with no punctuation, to its incessant use of a brittle, dated drum machine (could Doughty not afford to hire a live drummer with the money he raised from fans to finance this?), most of this feels calculated, deliberate and stiff.
