Climb Up is Apse at their most accessible, but it still reveals itself in layers--another singular album from a singular band.
-
It’s enjoyable as easy-listening, but there’s nothing about Climb Up that truly grips you. For that, APSE will have to exist in electro-rock mediocrity for the time being.
-
The result is intricately experimental in style and form but while there are some glorious successes, as a whole Climb Up feels blunted.
-
Climb Up is filled with an odd (for indie listeners, at least) brand of stadium-sized rock that can't quite escape the notions of cheese and bloat that accompany that term.
