Dec 30, 2010An amazing second album by MGMT. The sound of this album is just beautiful. They've really matured since their first album Oracular Spectacular. The album opens up with "It's Working" and that song is like the definition of psychedelic rock. And the song "Congratulations" is just a beautiful song to end the album with. All In All, Congratulations is one of my favorite Psychedelic albums. A-

Aug 15, 2011MGMT seems like they decided to go the "Of Moons, Birds, and Monsters" route from the debut LP. Which happens to be my favorite song from that record. I look forward to see what they do next.

Jan 7, 2016The boys have compiled a very articulate album. A blend of psychedelic pop that sounds fresh, original and melodic. A strong collection of tracks that flow well and force you to listen. It's difficult not tap your feet and nod your head. MGMT's sound gives off a dreamy yet tangible affinity to attaining happiness just as the slippery bugger slides from the ends of your fingers.

Dec 18, 2010After a couple almost full attentioned listens, I feel this album is much stronger than their first album. It won't wow you with immediate singles, but it is mesmerizing through it's entirety and I like the 12 minute Siberian Breaks. They seem to have nailed down a consistent sound with this album.

Sep 28, 2012The first listen didn't convinced me, but by the third listen, everything made sense now. The songs are a blend of 60s poopy songs with modern ambient electronica. Very addicting. Nice album.

Sep 14, 2010Not as many hits as Oracular Spectacular but perhaps more consistant , a good album but not fantastic
If the 3 singles from OS were on this and it would be fantastic -

Feb 9, 2018I have only been listening to MGMT for a short while, but I know their music is something special. This Album is the home my favorite song my them "Brian Eno", I just hope that they don't lose their motivation in making music like this.

Apr 3, 2018not one song is bad. the catchy it's working, the sweet a song for dan treacy. the haunting someone's missing, and schizophrenic flash delirium. the life threatening I found a whistle and the EPIC Siberian breaks. the sing along hero worship brain eno. the sorrow lady dada's night mare, and the endearing ballad congratulations.
-
Jul 19, 2013In all honesty, at first I liked Oracular a lot better than this but as time passed Congratulations has proven to be the much more enduring work, with a much deeper sound not aimed at being simple pop songs but it still remains fun and accessible.

Sep 14, 2013MGMT are more artistic then they ever have been.I guess only Tv on the radio and Pixies are allowed to be experimental not a use to be electro pop band. This world is so hypocritical and judgmental, MGMT said it best in the masterpiece song Flash delirium "The hot dog's is getting cold And you'll never be as good as the Rolling Stones "what a great line.Oh my god this world sucks.

Sep 3, 2010An amazing album that is meant to be listened from front to back. If you're iffy on it after the first listen do yourself a favour and listen to it in its entirety a couple more times. This album will grow on you but as most reviews indicate, do not expect Kids or Time to Pretend type tracks.

Jun 1, 2013I'm just gonna start by saying that the album cover is pretty friggin' amazing. Its not something you see everyday. The songs are great. Lady Dada's Nightmare, I Found A Whistle, and Siberian Breaks are my favorite songs on this album.

ChristianBApr 14, 2010Infinitely better than Oracular. There's not a single weak song on the entire tracklist, unlike the former which was mostly filler.

This airy prog-psych self-indulgence is merely an elaboration of the back half of that debut--the half I tuned out then but appreciate some now, because, even as self-indulgent elaborations go, the follow-up's a doozy.
-
Cowbells and organ chords set the frenetic pace for this crazed and eerie take on surf music that namechecks the godfather of ambient in its punkest track.
-
MGMT's first long-player may have included catchier singles, but Congratulations is the better album, trading Oracular's deceptive superficiality for psychedelic grandeur. Of course, like all psychedelic things, that grandeur is pretty deceptive, too.
