Where most of today's hip-hop artists opt to fill their albums with upwards of two dozen tracks, GOOD Music president Pusha T reminds us that less is more with his latest album, "DAYTONA", which proves to be the epitome of his entire career up until now. T's rapping is as dense and quotable as ever, his dynamic lyricism managing to switch from braggadocios ("What Would Meek Do?") to cocky ("The Games We Play") to aggressive ("Santeria") effortlessly. A major surprise is the production, with Mr. Kanye West nailing it out the park from front-to-back. The instrumental palette mixes grimy trap drums and muddy bass-lines with 'Ye's signature bright, colorful samples to create a warm but fittingly eerie atmosphere for Push to spit over. All of these aspects packed into a refreshingly short 21 minutes leads to "DAYTONA" coming out as one of 2018's finest albums yet.

DAYTONA is the most focused, sharpest and most savage Pusha T album yet. While the runtime initially seems overly short, it really plays to Pushas strength: the tracks seemlessly flow into eachother, going from one fantastic Kanye West beat into the next. This makes for a relentless, fast-paced 20 minute album that provides some of the finest, most luxurious drug rap ever.

On this album, Pusha T sounds as hungry as a young artist trying to make a statement with his first album. I have no favorite song because every song is amazing. He cemented himself in history as part of Clipse and now, he's done it as a solo artist. All killer no filler.

In just 7 tracks, ~20 minutes of music, Pusha T, alongside Kanye, have pushed the boundaries of hip-hop, while defying trends of artists putting out 20+-track long albums. With no fillers and ruthless lyrics, these two have created a minimalist atmosphere. Waiting 8 years for this album was definitely worth.

"If You Know You Know" lets you know right away the quality you are about to witness and doesnt slow down at all. "Come Back Baby" maybe explains the album best. The juxtaposition of Pusha's drug talk with the chorus and samples cry for help from drug addiction and redemption. Mix that with the context of the album art and it goes deep. I don't know if I should be wishing it was longer, because in its current state it's one of the most calculated and pristine albums of the 2010s. In true Pusha T fashion, it's incredibly intentional, to the point where every song is polished, almost every bar a hard-hitter, and the tone crystal clear. Easily one of the most re-listenable albums I've heard

9.5 but round it up so 10. This album had VERY few misses and showed what we see time and time again. Kanye and Pusha have insane chemistry and When pushed in a corner, KANYE ALWAYS PRODUCES (MBDTF, 808s, etc.) Kanye's production skills are matched by few and he let his production compliment Push in a godly way. Two very talented artists and a near perfect album.

DAYTONA is an album inspired by the streets dedicated to the streets. Pusha delivers a present-day ode to drugs, money and personal identity. Produced by West, who with arguably the best ear in the industry, has made good on his investment into self-imposed seclusion with some of the best samplings in his discography.

A lot of message was able to be extracted from this album, such as Pusha T's drug dealing as a teenager, disses to Drake on Infrared and also Kanye West addressing his political views on what would meek do. The beats from the music seem like something from MBDTF, since they are on the borderline of trap beats and old school hip hop beats. The greatest tracks on this album for me was Santeria, The Games We Play and If You Know you Know. Approx 11 minutes of more than decent material plus 10 minutes of quite uninspired remainder does not an AOTY contender make. Also, charging album prices for said 'EP plus bonus B-Sides' is not really an acceptable business venture in my book. Good thing we're living in 2018 - stream the four best songs, move on, never refer to this as an 'album' - job done.

Better than Kids see Ghosts and Ye together. Beyond excellent West's production, here contains great rhymes. Pusha T is better emcee than Kid Cudi and West, although second's influence and importance. This is as amazing as a production of an album can get, although Pusha was great, i couldn't help but to think that the beat selection, didn't bring the best out of him. Push T has a great flow, but it's a flow that keeps going through the whole 7 tracks, he didn't try to fit in into them, but his delivery and lyrics are still good. It's a very well done project, and i highly recommend it

Daytona is the first in a series of Kanye-produced albums that put Ye back on the map. Daytona functions less as a Pusha T album and more of a vessel for Kanye's critics-wowing production (that's how I see it, anyway). Daytona functions less as a Pusha T album and more of a vessel for Kanye's critics-wowing production (that's how I see it, anyway). It's very short for an album, with a runtime of only 21 minutes and only seven songs. The album has two guest apperences; the heavy-voiced rapper Rick Ross on "Hard Piano" and Ye himself on "What Would Meek Do?"

The quality of this "album" is like a two-sided coin; the strengths are also the weaknesses. First and foremost, the production. Danytona sounds like a Kanye album, with high-quality sample-filled production on every song. Sometimes it's light-sounding and fun - "If You Know" and "Come Back," and sometimes dark - "Santeria" and "Infrared." Regardless of the tone, it all sounds unique and very high-quality. Pusha's lyrics on this album are far more intelligent and clever than the ones on most rap albums. Pusha clearly has a lot of intelligence, and his lyrics are clever and sharp as needles. Lastly, T's vocal delivery is pretty unique and memorable. He pronouces his words clearly, making every word stick and stand out, in complete contrast to the recent trend of mumble-rap that dominates rap radio stations and charts.

Here is the second side of the coin; the cons. While the production is unquestionably high-quality and sharp, it rarely blows me off my feet. The exceptions would be the first song, which sounds awesome, "Hard Piano," with it's epic dark piano music and successful chorus, and "Santeria," which has dark music that hits hard. The others sounds good, but fail to real wow me. Next, the lyrics. While the lyrics on this album are clever, they are little else. Despite Pusha's sticky delivery and intelligence, he has almost nothing to say. Almost no interesting themes or ideas are brought up or explored during Daytona's brief runtime. "Games" is probably the worst offender, simply being about blowing money earned from selling drugs. This one, "If You Know," and "Hard Piano" have almost nothing to say, with no thought-provoking lyrics are anything worth talking about. "Baby" is a little better, but still actually says very little.

I know I'm in the minority, but I couldn't call Daytona a great album. It's production, lyrics, and delivery really stand out among other rap music, but the music rarely really delivers and the lyrics have very little to actually say. It's worth checking out for Kanye's sharp, high-quality production, but hard to really recommend for a painful lack of lyrical substance.

Track Review: If You Know You Know is his best Intro track yet the first part is sort of acapella with a small part of the instrumental playing while he's rapping. During the hook the instrumental all comes in and it's fantastic 10/10. The Games We Play is another stellar track he talks about his drug life over a instrumental with Jazz saxophones, Drums, and a guitar sample 9/10. Hard Piano is the song Rick Ross is featured on. And he does a good verse, but the hooks are done better when pusha t does them not a sample 6/10. Come Back Baby has great beat, great punchlines, and is the only song where there's a good hook that isn't don't by pusha 10/10. Santeria is my least favorite track. The hook is super slow, but the 1st and 2nd verses that have different instrumentals are good 6/10. What Would Meek Do? has the Ye feature all I have to say is that his first lines suck but everything else is great 8/10. Infrared is the perfect ending to this album the instrumental is a little more quite than the other songs but the lyrical content is great 10/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pusha T continues his run of dropping Album of the Year contender albums with the release of Daytona. This album is only seven tracks but it fills up the space that a 15 track album would comprehend with its cohesive direction, lack of filler, series of bar fests, clever word play, interesting beat choice and well focused lyricism anyone would expect from Pusha T. There is no doubt that this album may be perceived as too short by some people but it definitely does not take away its enjoyability. Highlights from the Album are If You Know, You Know, Games We Play, What would Meek Do feat Kanye West, Infrared and Come Back Baby. The other two tracks Hard Piano feat. Rick Ross and Santeria feat. 070 Shake are good but not as mind-blowing. They are enjoyable but more passable than the others to say the least. King Push proves he is one of the most consistent rappers in Hip Hop with a series of medium paced flows on every song to make his bars count. With production handled by Kanye west, Daytona sonically is dominated by sample based production which even have a more evolved sound than Kanye West had on previous records he produced. Pusha T spends this album talking about the luxury of time in his career, critical response he gets from people, the state of Hip hop, dropping albums whenever he feels like and still manges to make his projects competent, being braggadocious and his typical dope-boy content you would expect. Even though he still talks about dope boy stuff he still manages to keep things interesting flipping the script by being more braggy and continues to outdo himself. Daytona is just a masterpiece project with pure Quality over Quantity. Expand

Great delivery, clever bars, and phenomenal production from Kanye. DAYTONA is drug rap in art form. Pusha delivers the best album of 2018.

I want to preface my review by stating that this was my first Pusha T album. Overall I enjoyed this album and there are a few tracks I consistently come back to; like, If you know you know, Come back baby, and What would Meek do?. These tracks are timeless and I've continued to listen to them since release. There are some forgetable tracks that I havn't listened to since. One of the best albums of 2018, a project with nearly perfect production and incredible rapping. The only downside to this album was surprisingly the Rick Ross feature, which was still decent.

As always King Push spits fire. The production is great. The album is no filler all killer. Should have won Grammy for best rap album. It is one of the best album of the decade.

Of the three Kanye produced projects released in 2018(Ye, Kids See Ghosts, and Daytona), Daytona would be ranked in the middle. It is definitely better than Ye, but I don't think it can be compared to Kids See Ghosts. The whole albums flows well and the beats are great. The people Who Give 0 For this piece of art do not know anything about Rap. This is a Rapper Reaching his peak Again (After Hell Hath No Fury), And The Only weak points in this album are what Pusha T uses To stand out from The rest:
    1) Only 7 Tracks
    2) The Raw beats on i.e. Come Back Baby, Infrared. But That is Pusha's Style, And something That we should Expect From a Pusha T album.

And compared To other rap Albums, This is miles Ahead. This Should Go down in history as a classic and Pusha will be remembered, Atleast on the Streets.

This album is so quality it's insane. Every song on here is great even though there is only 7 of them. If Pusha could pull this off with a 10 - 15 track record it would score higher than a 10. The Kanye production goes so hard on every track and when Pusha raps it just sounds like he puts so much heart into it. Personal favorite tracks are "Hard Piano", "Come Back Baby", and "What Would Meek Do?".

Push delivers on every track in this short album with his clever lyrics and his slow-paced, hard-hitting delivery. Kanye did amazing work with the production on this album as well. My favorite tracks are If You Know You Know, Come Back Baby, Santeria, What Would Meek Do?, and Infrared.

I love how user "Tach" puts it, "the perfect example for 'quality over quantity'." DAYTONA is flawless. Am I biased because of my love for Kanye's producing skills? Yes, perhaps. But I know how I feel when listening to this LP, and that feeling is awesomeness. The first two tracks are the standouts in my opinion. They are memorable, catchy, and explosive. The remained of the album is able to carry this energy all the way through, you know it's a well-mixed project when you can't even notice the switch from one record to the next (in a casual listening setting). This was the greatest opening album to Kanye's 2018 Surgical Summer. As a final note, it flows very nicely into "ye" which grants it this 10/10 score from me.
P.S. I see almost all of the Surgical Summer projects as flawless. Almost all.

The new Pusha T album is more assured and therefore effective than the last Clipse album, nowhere near the focused brilliance of their first two. All production is handled by Kanye West who’s likewise harking back to his glory days with assorted updates on his College Dropout sound. [Jul 2018, p.62]
