DaveOct 15, 2003WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
-
EdwardPOct 15, 2003It's not exactly my cup of tea but it's music that makes you think ... and that can only be a good thing. However, at times it is a bit over-indulgent and would have benefited from a tighter focus.

-
JoseSOct 3, 2003The album is great becaus it's a fusion of great instrumentals, calm ,and loud vocals that sound great. The songs are constantly up beat, with the exception of number 9 because it's more melancholic song, but I like it. I can tell that theses guys, worked hard on every song inorder to produce album has a unique balance of great lyrics and music. The album is excellent and motivating.

sparticusSep 21, 2003Jake, you dont know sh*t about music. Theres no way you can talk so much gripe about TMV, and say you are a fan of At the Drive In.
-
-
TimSep 12, 2003Jake....how can art and poetry be pretentious? The same ignorant asses like you said the same crap about the new Shai Hulud album as well, when in reality you couldn't put out anything remotely creative compared to either Shai Hulud or The Mars Volta.

jethroJul 14, 2003great album.... starts out smoking than tapers off towards the end. the drumming is solid throughout the entire album. requires a couple of listens to sink in. highly recommend

GregH.Jul 6, 2003A true masterpiece. I've had the album for a mere 5 days, and it has already become my alll time favorite. Music doesn't get any better than this. De-Loused... has given me new hope for the album as an art form. Simply spectacular

-
-
ChrisHJul 6, 2003Wow, just wow
-
-
gavinJul 6, 2003Useless, meaningless metaphors. Whiningly high vocal range. Unimpressive guitar work. Obnoxious, untrained drums. Electronics and effects add nothing. Hard to believe it took 5+ people to put together something so unwothy of my $10.

-
JonHJul 4, 2003what the hell was that guy from pitchfork thinking? he needs to re-examen this album and realize its full potential. this is the best album i've purchased in years.
-
-
DanSJul 4, 2003This album is a trip, it's the best way to describe it. The raw emotion of the entire album takes you to strange new musical places. It's a really nice blend of countless musical influences and styles. I bought the album without ever hearing anything by TMV beforehand, and I couldn't be any more satisfied.

jillianvJul 3, 2003exactly what this world needs.

JasonPJul 3, 2003Interesting but miss the energy from the former ATDI. I agree with Pitchfork "it's not fun"....at all!
-
-
MaxGJul 1, 2003a bit of pink floyd, some sounds and ambiance taken from ATDI (alright) spanish and latin influences. My only regret: where is "cut that city"!!!!

StevenHJun 30, 2003Amazing album. 2002 we had little to no good music released but 2003 is already shaping up well with albums like this and Radiohead's 'Hail to the Thief'

-
-
mattmJun 29, 2003Finally an album I can listen to over and over without getting sick of the same candy coated "verse, chorus, verse" crap. Think of Pink Floyd but instead of just acid, toss is some meth and you have a good idea of what is going on here. Alot of through went into crafting each song. Great Album
-
-
GabrielEJun 29, 2003This album will change music as we know it, it will hopefully take over all the KoRn-rip-off bands that are out today(Disturbed, Staind, Godsmack), and hopefully Fred Durst listens to it and quits the bussiness. Best album for decades to come Mars Volta=pink floyd-santana-Led Zepellin.
-
-
JasonSJun 29, 2003This CD is what music is all about. It has the ability to make nothing else in the world seem to exist. I am a fan of all kinds of music especially classic rock and this is the best album I have ever heard. Thank you the Mars Volta.
-
-
TonyFJun 28, 2003The Mars Volta man the ship to take the music lovers out of the corporate asses.

EmmanuelGJun 28, 2003Cedric and Omar are musical geniuses!! Though at the drive-in is still one of my favorite bands of all time, The Mars Volta has seemingly broken themselves away from the limitations of musical genres. They have changed the defenition of music!
-
-
JonSJun 28, 2003The hype was worth it, so was the wait, after a couple listenings you'll definitely make this one of your favorites

FugJun 28, 2003The most origional album iv heard in a very long time, it should be ranked up among the greatest ever. For those who have not had the chance yet, their live show is just as spectacular and should not be missed.
-
-
ernieJun 27, 2003this album shows how much the mars volta rocks from the crazy! sounds of omars guitar to the voice effects of cedric bixler this album tells a story of a fallen hero that try's to commit suicide and your narrator is cedric bixler this album is really well put together and shows that the mars volta is one of the most unique bands out there i suggest you go out and buy the album!

MikeKJun 26, 2003the sounds that they produce with their instruments are simply incredible. on top of this, they manage to stay melodic and astonishingly creative. this album really showcases the talents of the musicians involved.

-
DannyCJun 26, 2003One of the greatest albums ever... and probably the most dynamic. Beautiful melodies layered over chaotic driving rythems that jump from every emotion across the board. It will make most good musicians feel like they lack in creativity. Just F...ing amazing

-
MichaelAJun 26, 2003This is one of the most amazing CDs I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. It certainly requires more than one listen to appreciate the work you're hearing. I find it amazing that so much art can be crammed into 60 minutes of music, it's truely beautiful.
-

FoxizofBurniceJun 26, 2003It's a comatic structure, it's for everybody who wants sleeping, being arise, it's about all the true story of a the clone of you when you take any products in your head...
-
-
lynchhimJun 26, 2003Forget every other band in the world. The Mars Volta create music that will make you realise just how shallow, meaningless and bereft of talent the music industry has been over the last few years. This album will make your ears bleed, your heart race and your brain explode. You need this album in your life. Do not waste your money buying anything else.
-
-
BrennanHJun 25, 2003while sparta has the instrumental sound of atdi, mars volta has the vocals...kind of. bixler and rodriguez have succeded in that they didn't make another atdi album, but left enough sonic treats in there to remind us where they came from. and who the hell is that drummer? best "punk" drummer i've heard in a while.
-
-
MattSJun 25, 2003The CD takes you to a whole new world. Feverish and psychadelic, the songs rip at your mind in a frenzy of intense drum and bass rythme while the guitar breaks the barrier of reality for you. Guest musicians include John Frusciante (Guitar for Cicatriz) and Flea (Bass on all tracks), both from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Lyrically, this album is brilliant, and I could not ask for more.
-
-
ChrisMJun 25, 2003Great Original Music. An epic album that tells the story it was meant to portray. Can't wait to see them live.
-
-
PedroFJun 25, 2003At last real music what I been waiting for. I am a big fan I have seen them live. Best live band ever. By the way ATDI still kick ass and so does Flea!

RussellJ.Jun 24, 2003Absolutely the most pleasing, awe inspiring, fantastic album to ever be. I strongly recommend anyone who owns the album to see The Mars Volta play live.
-
-
PhilGJun 23, 2003De-Loused in the Comatorium is fantastic in many ways. Not in many many years has an album been so musicly groundbreaking. If TMV doesn't gain acclaim and success off this album, the music industry is worse off than I thought.

Awards & Rankings
-
A disjointed mess- brilliant songs gone so awry that I find myself no longer excited by the prospect of listening to the album through, but disappointed.
-
Recall[s] both Fugazi's punk slam and early Santana's psychedelic sheen.
-
Contrary to nearly every other band in music today, the Mars Volta suffer from an abundance of ideas and concepts, not a lack thereof.
