"I wanted to write you the prettiest song but I get distracted by wildfires over Burbank." Man Man I know that feeling. This album slaps. Y'all can enjoy your Taylor Swift but ya basic, ya super basic. This one here is a solid gold tooth from some wise old musicians at the top of their raspy, ramshackling game.

This is the album I needed right now. It's funky, jazzy, weird and simply a lot of fun. A few standout tracks are "Cloud Nein", "On The Mend", "Goat" and "If Only", but no one song really sounds the same and there is such a variety of styles. I also love frontman Ryan Kattner's vocal style - a cross between Tom Waits and Dr. John, and any music with marimba always lifts my heart. GoodThis is the album I needed right now. Unkempt but heartfelt, Dream Hunting in the Valley of the In-Between is ultimately an enjoyable record from a unique band.

Even with the more tuneful tracks, the album has enough bizarre lyrical imagery, unexpected outbursts, and general freakiness to keep Man Man from losing the weirdness they built their sound on.

Honus's lyrics are as fever dream as ever — "The Prettiest Song In the World" has a clergyman find Satan 69ing in a motel room — but the widened instrumental prowess across Dream Hunting gives a fresh edge to his words.
