Up there with Mos Def's Ecstatic and Willie Isz's Georgiavania as the hip hop album of the year. A sublime hybrid of sounds created to both challenge the listener and make them move.

  1. None of this is going to sell enough records to bother Jay-Z, and a track or two veer too close to MF Doom for comfort, but Fluorescent Black is easily one of the best rap records of the year.
  2. What really impresses though is how complete all of this sounds: aside from the typically cocky lyrical references, there’s nary a hint that they’ve not been working together for the last few years.
  3. These go-hard-or-go-home tracks are still sprinkled across Fluorescent Black... But those who've been along for the 10-plus year ride may be looking for more of them.
