Although their guitar-drums set-up is reminiscent of the White Stripes, the Animals are more interested in the wake-and-bake vibe of haggard hippie bands like Love and the Jefferson Airplane.
  2. It’s a mature, accomplished and surprisingly diverse collection of songs, but life-changing it ain’t.

So far they make phrases rather than lyrics and sounds rather than songs, but they have a nice semi-chaotic way about them. [Sep 2008, p.108]
  4. Golden Animals do a remarkably impressive job of conjuring up just the kind of image they set out to do: floppy hatted, Afghan-coated drop outs singin' blue-eyed Blues as the acid gradually seeps out of their veins and into the foothills of the mesa.
  5. The Golden State band Golden Animals mine that particular epoch of mild psych and blues rock--especially the middle part, when 60s idealism gave way to the dope-daze haze of the 70s--for all it's worth on Free Your Mind and Win a Pony, the duo's solid enough debut.
  6. Eisner and Beecroft are both competent players and better-than average singers, but their songs just don’t stand out.
  7. The guitar-drums duo format makes for a sizable nod to the White Stripes too, and delicately crafted songs such as Follow Me Down are interspersed with chugging psychedelic blues and a infectious, mescalin-around-the-campfire feel.
  8. Uncut

Their ragged eclecticism is a winning one, taking detours into Ry Cooder slide-country, beat-up folk and starry desert ballads. [Sep 2008, p.98]
