I listened to the Carter 3 on purpose before listening to this. It’s on par. People are spoiled. This is better than any young artist out right now! Better than Eminem latest effort also, and that’s also good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wayne, as usual in his own world. Weezy starts of crazy with the first 3 tracks. Mid way through the album, I kinda lost the flow as a listener, because there was too much that was going on, sound wise. Wayne picks it up at the end though, showing that he's still capable of what he'd set up. As Wayne said already, listen to the album with an open mind. Expand

Weezy continues his legendary run with this 24 track album. Top shelf production & features, Wayne delivers his distinct flow & lyricism rap fans have comes to expect after decades in the game.

Starts off very strong in my opinion, very diverse album from the start.
However, the vocal effects on Wayne's voice the entire way through can be overwhelming and grating, and in the 24 song album he never really says anything. "Ball Hard" is practically just a list of famous people. This is why (and I may be in the minority) that I believe C5 is a better album, as songs such as Let it

Solid album though, some of the instrumentals take some getting used to but this is definitely an album that grows on you, after my first listen it would've been lucky to get a 4.

Going into this album i had an expectation but it was not what i expected. After removing my expectations and listening for the second time around i found that i really enjoyed this album.
It feels like Wayne made this with one thing in mind and that is to make some enjoyable tracks. There's nothing too mindblowingly special about most songs but that being said, the songs aren't bad

This is probably my favorite album since Tha Carter III. It's Wayne's most experimental album maybe other than 'Rebirth.' It's got a lot of Mixtape Weezy vibes. His lyrics can be abrasive and gross and I absolutely love it. It's ugly and beautiful. My only critique, if you can even call it that, is that maybe there's a few too many songs, but one listener's "filler" is another's favorite song. Expand

Outside of about 4 tracks and some production this is a solid album. Wayne’s rapping on this is sharp as it has been since No Ceilings in 2009.

The album also gives a reflection of hip hop, whether you're looking for beats or hard-hitting bars, the flow or the message in the lines, old school or new school, the album combines those elements and it gives life. This album is for everybody

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This album is so close to being amazing but its lacking consistent quality. This album is like a roller-coaster for songs. The track "clap for em" will be a club song but its a pretty boring track. "Trust Nobody" with Adam Levine will be a radio hit but ruins the aesthetic of the album. get out of my head featuring XXXTENTACION was very unnecessary and didn't help the album. There are many tracks that show Lil Wayne's rapping ability and some good use of auto tune occasionally. The album may be suffering from Wayne's status in rap and the bar set by himself for projects. It's definitely better than Tha Carter 5 but it's weak as a whole. I would say it would be better with 8 less tracks and less auto tune. Expand

I see why the album is called Funeral. Wayne might be done making exciting full bodies of work. The Carter 5 is the closest we’ve seen to peak Wayne since 4 and I sadly don’t think he’s coming back. The start of this album is good. You can argue that it’s great and I’d be fine with that. It gets bad pretty quick. It also doesn’t help that it’s 24 songs long. Are we not better than thisI see why the album is called Funeral. Wayne might be done making exciting full bodies of work. I was disappointed by this album. I don't know if Lil Wayne's working with different producers or what but the beats seemed kinda stale. Lil Wayne's rapping and lyrics aren’t at their best here either. Clap for Em and I Do It are the stand out tracks.

As i am listening to this album, the general feel is that i am not listening to an album at all, since it does not bring anything more than medium and repetitive production and exaggerated lyrics like he does not find any motive to rap anymore, and on top of it all, we have 24 tracks , and sometimes half of songs actually. So i can't give more then a 5.

In dire need of a good editor above all else, the consistently high energy level and strong flows on display rightfully deserve commendation, but a failure to justify the mammoth 25-track length of "Funeral" by the end leads to tedium setting in after only about 10.

Choice Cuts: "Mahogany", "I Do It (feat. Big Sean and Lil Baby)", "Dreams"

There's a lot to appreciate here but a lot more that I just want to turn off. Wayne's dark experimental overtones get downplayed by these utterly useless background tracks that chalk up the run time to an unbearable hour and 16 minutes. Generic and feigning actual emotion, this newest album falls about as flat as everyone expected.

The strongest tracks remain standouts long after the first listen, while there is an abundance of filler present (primarily in the middle of the album). "Mahogany", "Mama Mia", and "Bing James" in particular demonstrate Wayne's ability to craft distinct and engrossing flows with impressive rhymes. While the entire album lacks the quality of the standout tracks, Funeral remains a strong album.

Cobbled together in the style of a compilation rather than a cohesive album, it's a wonky, slightly disappointing collection that provides diamonds and duds in equal measure.

Whether or not listeners make it through all 24 tracks on Funeral, it’s easy to see what Wayne is definitely in his own world. His rhyming remains unlike anyone else in the entire genre and despite this album not being his strongest, you don’t have to go far to find a Wayne quotable that inherently makes one admire his seasoned lyrical dexterity.

Wayne, much like in his mixtape days, is finally having fun again. And when he does that, the results are captivating.
