The way Buke and Gase pull together no wave's sense of texture with dance-punk's ear for rhythm is impressive enough, but the cohesion and approachability of General Dome are really what make the album.

Overall, General Dome's rewards are equal to its considerable demands, proving that there's more to Buke and Gase than a good story.

It’s true that General Dome won’t be for everyone, but Dyer and Sanchez have certainly assembled an interesting creation.

The best tracks strike a raw nerve shared by Wye Oak and Battle's premiere efforts. [Jan-Feb 2013, p.86]

General Dome's force is relentless, but about halfway through these 12 songs, things run together, with muddy, [mid-dy] waters polluting the mix.

A couple of less than diverting songs aside, this is an album that won’t be forgotten in a hurry whichever way you look at it.

Their sutured songs aren't singular in nature or theme, which makes it a gem for sonic sleuths. But it's not exactly the most accessible of listens to a general audience.

These two seemingly disparate parts combine in an off-putting but refreshingly rough-and-tumble way.

    It's a canny hybrid. [No. 95, p.53]

It seems that with General Dome, Buke and Gase have managed to do just fine, and they’ve created a record that looks forward, as well as backward, to what indie rock has been and what it has the potential to be.
