It'll never be your favourite album, but you'll wish your adolescence sounded as carefree as this.
  2. Mar 27, 2013
Golden Grrls have put out a happy, smiley little record that doesn't overstay its welcome.
  3. Under The Radar
    Mar 22, 2013
Golden Grrrls exists in a limbo more grey than beige that apparently doesn't appeal to anyone. [Mar-Apr 2013, p.103]
  4. Mar 11, 2013
Golden Grrrls (despite actually having a bad name) made an album that embodies the best things about C-86-derived indie pop (warmth, innocence, honesty, community) and doesn't skimp on songs that make you want to get up and jump around the room with a big silly grin on your face.
  5. Mar 8, 2013
The bursts of bright energy and amateurish enthusiasm on Golden Grrrls shine on wondrously for several minutes, but after a while the limitations of stunted musicianship and repetitive songwriting take over.
  6. Uncut
    Mar 1, 2013
There's little that veers from the template but it's largely done well. [Apr 2013, p.72]
  7. Mar 1, 2013
The result is an accomplished debut that's a welcome--though not essential--addition to a growing number of lo-fi pop bands.
  8. Mar 1, 2013
Golden Grrrls is an entertaining enough way to spend 30 minutes, although there's little below the surface.
  9. Mar 1, 2013
By no means reinventing the wheel then, but not about to carelessly buckle it either.

It's clear that the members of Golden Grrrls write enjoyable, harmless numbers with great ease. However, since these numbers are given little chance to grow, Golden Grrrls lacks staying power.

This isn’t the kind of thing you’re going to put on when you’re amped-up for a night out. But as far as sunporch indie punk goes, few albums constantly hit such sweet highs with sincerity.
