The key is confidence. Moments that would be cringe-inducing if delivered by the less intrepid come across as triumphant.

    Habits & Contradictions is a total must-listen.

Q's energetic, exuberant delivery is frames by some impressive and varied production throughout. [Jun 2012, p.108]

Habits & Contradictions is less like a label-released full-length and more like an amateurish mixtape, a work in progress.

  1. Very classic album Schoolboy Q did it again. His mixtapes & albums are instant classics. He taking hip hop by storm and he's bringing it back to the top of the food chain Expand

TDE! Dope from start to finish. Sacreligious, Hands on the Wheel, Blessed, and There He Go are my favorites. I desperately need a Black Hippy album (kendrick lamar, ab soul, schoolboy q, and jay rock) The songs they have now are so freaking good. Expand
  3. ScHoolboy Q is probably on the same level as A$AP Rocky in that his subject matter is very limited. Lyrically he's not the best in TDE. But why he stands out in the group is he can make music on the level of the listener. I'm a huge fan of Kendrick Soul but you can make the arguement that sometimes they are TOO preachy. Q is not that kind of artist, he tells it to you like it is. And this album proves it. The first 3 songs: Sacrilegious, There He Go and Hands On The Wheel are very dark tracks. There He Go is him changing his voice so he sounds ADD-ish, like Nicki Minaj only better. Sacrilegious is a song about broken promises, how he doesn't follow a religion and so on. While Hands On The Wheel is mostly dark because of the beat and the sample of some chick performing Pursuit Of Happiness. But the song is pretty much about what he Rocky love: weed brews. Blessed is a personal song. While My Homie tells a story about how one of his best friends him over. Some more songs that stand out are Oxy Music, Raymond 1969, Druggies With Hoes Again and Nightmare On Figg St. My issue is that while he does try to do a lot. Not everything goes well, the last song gets really repetitive and annoying, Sex Drive isn't that good, Sexting isn't better and Gangsta In Designer is a really pointless song. But overall Q dropped a dope album. I can't say it's great though because it's too spotty. Expand
  4. Nothing new, but definitely a good album, well produced and performed better. From an independent album, perhaps one can not expect better, but between "Section.80" and "Habits & Contraddiction" certainly prefer Schoolboy Q. Expand
