Expand

Billie and FINNEAS are proven to be more than a one-trick pony by showing great versatility in their art. They are able to expand their dark, nightmarish sound that was heard in Billie's debut album in a way that separates the two works from each other

I hope Billie and Finneas are proud of the work they have put in this masterpiece. It is clearly a huge pressure to follow the brilliance that was When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and clearly did just that. I love the album through and through and Happier Than Ever is arguably Billie's best song to date. I hope this album and the song sweep next year's Grammys because they deserve it.

It is truly a very, very well composed and produced album. It is very versatile but cohesive at the same time. New sounds for her but "i didn't change my number, overheated, goldwing, happier than ever sound and my future" are sounds that I've heard before, from about 2018 until the release.

This album represents a change for the duo Billie and Finneas. The opening track, Getting Older, symbolizes this metamorphosis, with lyrics where Billie reflects on her career and her personal life. The opening track, Getting Older, symbolizes this metamorphosis, with lyrics where Billie reflects on her career and her personal life. Here, she clarifies that the focus of this album will not be metaphors, like the ones from her debut, but the struggles of her personal life. However, the highlight of the album goes to FINNEAS, which shows why he's considered one of the greatest producers of his generation, on tracks such as I Didn't Change My Number and Oxytocin, in addition to the fantastic and mesmerizing chord progression in the opening track, Getting Older.
In Halley's Comet, Billie shows how inexperienced and vulnerable to love she truly is, in a heartbreaking ballad about making music and a long-distance relationship. "I'm sitting in my brother's room, haven't slept in a week or two, I think I might have fallen in love, what am I to do?". In my future, the best song of the album, she talks about self-love in a melody that mixes bossa, jazz and her traditional anti-pop: which is another brilliant decision: to gather a long range of genres to this project, which shows just how much the duo could really make anything they wanted to: like brazilian Bossa Nova and even Rock music.
The album's weaknesses are the singles, uninteresting tracks that recycle the formula of its first album or are simply tiresome and out of place in the narrative that the album tries to build, as with Lost Cause. After a somewhat disastrous sequel that culminates in the great 'Therefore I Am' and the title track, Billie ends the album with the bland ballad Male Fantasy, which seems to ignore the massive shift as an artist that occurs midway through the title-track Happier Than Ever: where she screams her voice out with powerful and distorted guitars.

Favorite tracks: my future, Billie Bossa Nova, Getting Older, Oxytocin, Happier Than Ever, Halley's Comet

Worst tracks: Lost Cause, Everybody Dies, OverHeated

This album is such a masterpiece in this modern time where pop has been mixed with trap beats, and I love that we are not getting that type of music in this proyect. I'm so amazed that such young artists make music like this, it is clear that the production is astonishing and the messenge throughout this album is so beautiful and honest

the album is cohesive and experimental. tracks with mixed genres are amazing and passionate to listen to. billie not only lived up to the success of her debut album but also raised her bar as a singer. this album certainly gave more vision to the sadpop genre. looking forward to the next songs she will bring to us.

In this album Billie Eilish explores with new sounds and many of them are well done, however there are songs that don't feel complete.

So, this week I got to listen to one of my new favorite albums of all time, as well as one of the worst.

Did Billie Eilish really need to spend the entirety of Happier Than Ever whispering two inches from the microphone? She sounds like someone planted limp, lo-fi, hip-hop beats in the background of an NPR news segment. She may as well be singing over the menu music on the Wii. I get

I get that the album is supposed to convey a sense of ennui, but amongst ennui you can be frustrated with the system that put you there. You can be angry at yourself for letting your passion become a job. You can take joy in the little moments spent with friends who remind you of home. You can feel robbed. You can feel slighted. You can feel lonely. You can have any emotion at all.

Happier Than Ever is so one note and monotone that the deep cuts don't sound any different from the sex jams on this scrubbed, sanitized and overly-polished record. In fact, the type of explosive, white-hot, chemical heat Billie conveys can be replicated by, with a proper lab and chemical safety gear, pouring a ten ounce glass of water into a second ten ounce glass of water.

Growth. Just growth. Also a healing album. Very different styles of songs although they are very cohesive in the album!

Wow. Billie not only matured but improved in every facet. The songwriting is better, the soundscape is more diverse and the singing is beautiful. This is a fantastic project.

Happier than ever is not an album made to be successful, it is made to diversify Billie and take her to events that give her respect as she is becoming a solid growing artist. She has all my admiration for wanting to leave a mark with his music and not create disposable songs for the radios that will only play for a few months. We young people will be in good hands as long as BillieHappier than ever is not an album made to be successful, it is made to diversify Billie and take her to events that give her respect as she is becoming a solid growing artist. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Happier Than Ever is an intimate moment between Billie Eilish and the listener, as she pours her heart and soul into a lot of these tracks. The whole project seamlessly flows from one song to the other, with themes dealing with lust, fame, and femininity. Billie's sweet and tender vocals really exemplifies these themes even further, as the best songs on this project really take advantage of her strengths. Although some tracks felt a bit bland, the hits on this projects really stand out. The structure of this album is really good, as it has a solid intro of Billie's coming-of-age, Not My Responsibility as a nice spoken-word interlude that really expresses the sentiments shown throughout the project, and the title track leading into Male Fantasy is a nice closing duo of tracks because of its feeling of finality. My main problem with this album is that some songs feel sort of unnecessary and the project could have been more succinct. Overall, a really sassy and emotional listen that takes you on a diverse sonic journey. Props to FINNEAS with the production as well, one of my favorite producers.

Billie is no good at delivering an album of almost all ballads, all the songs don't have a single aspect or feeling that catches your attention, with NDA being the only standout for me. No ballads on this album are good, they all are more about Billie herself, therefore making it harder to relate to the songs and feel how she feels about getting older and forgetting to change her number.Billie is no good at delivering an album of almost all ballads, all the songs don't have a single aspect or feeling that catches your attention, with NDA being the only standout for me. Therefore I Am is also a good song, but Happier Than Ever is just slow and depressing at times. I didn't make it out of the album without falling asleep more than twice. Expand

Um álbum perfeito do início ao fim. Ver a evolução musical de Billie é gratificante. As melodias que arrepiam junto com a produção brilhante de Finneas. Um espetáculo.

So, whilst it may not boast songs that stick with you for months in the way that Eilish’s first does, Happier Than Ever feels like a project that will age more gracefully and, in years to come, it may even come to eclipse that which came before it.

“Your Power” is the slowest-and-lowest moment on “Happier Than Ever,” but as a whole the album is softer, quieter, more languid than Eilish’s trap-inflected debut. ... The dreamy-jazzy mode suits her singing, which has never sounded better than it does throughout “Happier Than Ever.”

Billie Eilish’s second album expands upon everything that worked the last time and pushes it in new directions, a creative muse restless and bold in its ambition. It may not always land, but this is a terrific release that proves Eilish’s staying power, demonstrating she’s more than up to the task of delivering on the promise of her debut.
