LarsJFeb 10, 2005Gotta agree with Andrew on this one. It´s an ok, easy-listening sort of album, but in no way compares to either Joshua tree or Achtung baby. I don´t get why the band themselves kept calling this their best work -even for fans, this is average U2. (Which is still pretty good, but not their best work by a longshot)
-
-
afghanFeb 16, 2005weakest u2 album
-
-
DennisDFeb 16, 2005overhyped and underwhelming... U2 has produced some all-time classic CDs, but this is not one of them.
-
-
terrybFeb 17, 2005Ok, its not the best of u2, its not the worst,(remember zooropa) but to give the album a 0 is just not geniune. You still got to remember that even a bad u2 is still better than 99% of the bands out there.
-
-
ChrisRFeb 19, 2005They've lost it. No imagination, no new ideas, just recycling older material. Same lyrical treatment, same production skills. Some of their '90s albums even sound more modern. This proves two things: 1) They've run out of creativity, 2) They're just in it for the money now. Sad.
-
-
ErikDFeb 22, 2005It grew on my significantly...first 3 tracks are simply outstanding!
-
-
RyanCFeb 22, 2005Its about time we remembered that U2 are not actually any good. Really, it was over long ago. End it before they do an REM and make us foreget why people liked them in the first place. Remember them for pre-91 material I guess

SaffronFaerieFeb 24, 2005the people in u2 are so big and rich that they could put out whatever kind of album they want without really consulting with anyone. unfortunately, this seems to be excactly what they decided to do, and guess what? it sucks. they can't even count in spanish

StatelessFeb 24, 2005For those mainstream critics: Please stop marketing for U2, it´s shameful. This album should have been titled "How to dismantle a former glory career".

TroyDFeb 26, 2005Dissapointing. That said, the lead single, Vertigo, blew me away. U2's best rocker in years... but the rest of the album is just a bunch U2's poorer efforts. Not worth waiting 4 years for.

JosephDMay 15, 2005U2 is cool stuff and yes I am 20 not 50. The bomb is full of good tunes containing amazing sonic guitat rifts and powerful vocals from one of the greatest rock singers of all time. U2 are still relivent as ever and they have the talent and tecnique to back their claim to be the bigest band in the world up
-
-
LionelWMay 27, 2005This is U2...so it´s must be "Their best album"...well... at least until they´ll release their next one probably in 2006... that album will be "Their best album"... don´t forget it.

EDBurattoJun 15, 2005A brilliant record by all accounts. It's better than ATYCLB, not quite as good as Achtung Baby, but definately a classic by any measure; this is one of u2's strongest albums to date. It was the best album released in 2004, and better than anything released so far in 2005. Enjoy!
-
-

ChriscoMAug 26, 2005Vertigo is a very misleading track that doesn't at all foreshadow the rest of the album. I'd rather listen to "pop" or "the passengers" anytime than force my way through this one. The drums and percussion are lost in the mix somewhere.

MusicLoverOct 21, 2007I was so excited when I first got this album. Then I listened to it & all I felt was disappointment. I expected more from U2. I still got faith in Bono & the gang, though.
-
-
GuyEFeb 13, 2007Of course this doesnt live up to The Joshua Tree or The Unforgettable Fire, but then again, what does? This is actually a lot better than a lot of new music out there and while it pales in comparison to some of their older work it is still well worth a listen.
-
-
CarlosM.Jun 29, 2007One of the latest hight prices of U2....

-
JohnKFeb 19, 2009I love U2. I hate this album. I even liked Pop and I hate this album. The difference? The lyrics all the way. Pop had interesting lyrics, this has boring, straightforward and unpoetic. It's a terrible, terrible album.
-
-
MCPotDudeNov 21, 2004It's brilliant. The highs and lows of the album work together to ultimately make this yet another masterpeice for this quartet that gets better like vintage wine. Bravo boys ... Bravo!
-
-
georgesNov 21, 2004mixing old chime like guitar sounds with rich overdrive the boys have done it again. a good effort and although they might not have the passion of youth anymore, i think they have a new issue on the horizon, middle age

maxfNov 22, 2004This CD is pretty sweet, it has some slow and dancing tunes. It is one to be heard and listened to on new years eve and day.
-
-
MartinNov 22, 2004Lovin' it, don't care if it's "too melodramatic" or "unadventurous", it's genuine U2 and that's all I need.. :)
-
-
DavidLNov 23, 2004U2 has set a very high standard for themselves. They have managed to reach it once again. HTDAAB is not the best they've ever done, but it's still really good-the best since Achtung Baby. The trademark chiming guitars and soaring vocals give U2 fans what they want. U2 is not only the last relevant band of their era, they're still the best band out there.

dmandwomanNov 23, 2004Great tunes! Beautiful emotion in words and music. Not certain it's an Achtung Baby or Joshua Tree though. But, even if it's close to those 2 albums, it's a major achievement.

[Anonymous]Nov 24, 2004I used to love U2 so much. I'm not sure if I've wised up or if they have descended into the realms of the retarded. This album is junk. While some of the tunes are OK, Bono's lyrics are a series of painful couplets that with have you reaching for the crack pipe to drown it all out.

-
DanMNov 26, 2004Tops Joshua Tree and Achtung, Baby with its sheer passion. Great music. Ref. the "Freedom has a scent ..." line that's so controversial, it's all part of the overall theme of the album. "Atomic Bomb" is one for the ages.
-
-
MenschNov 27, 2004Anyone who can listen to Bono's ode to his father -- "Can you hear me when I sing; You?re the reason I sing; You?re the reason why the opera is in me" from "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own" without getting chills will never appreciate U2. The inconsistency keeps this album from being a classic, but it is fantastic nonetheless.
-
-
GuenterONov 27, 2004Edge better than ever. Great produced. Better than ATYCLB.
-
-
JorisV.Nov 27, 2004Good cd, but can't tip Achtung Baby or The Joshua Tree, unless some reviewers who acclaim this would be their best cd... Therefor "...Bomb" has to few classic standout tracks, there's no song on it that could stand time like one or pride. Despite this, this is a coherent, sometimes genius album.

EdwardMDec 1, 2004This album is probably one of the most consistent and listenable U2 albums, or rock albums, for that matter, ever. At first I wasn't enthralled, but it is their most human and lyrically hopeful ever. Sonically, it's right there under Achtung. It is eminently coherent and is an album that few artists can put out there - mind-blowing!

JohnLDec 30, 2004All Because of You, Vertigo, and Love and Peace or Else are wonderful kicks in the pants softened by the touching One Step Closer and Miracle Drug.
-
-
JohnBDec 6, 2004I agree not their strongest ever; however; the songs slowly reveal themselves with every consecutive listen. I believe this will slot into the number three spot as a lot of people's favourite album. Nice effort!

MattAug 27, 2005Fantastic album from beginning to end. U2 just can't seem to go wrong... (if you pass a blind eye over "Pop") A fantastic live band such as them combined with these huge arena rocking anthems is just an amazing experience.

-
ZackASep 26, 2005This is one of those albums that, after repeated listening, reveals its intrecacies to the listener slowly. One realizes the complexly interwoven themes that tie the songs together and the overarching reach towards the answer to the question posed in the title: Love.

Awards & Rankings
-
This time, Steve Lillywhite and the other producers assembled simply construct a U2 album in miniature, mixing in the Edge's processed-guitar trademark whenever you fear they're straying into unforgivable un-U2ness. That's just not enough.
-
This is grandiose music from grandiose men, sweatlessly confident in the execution of their duties.
-
While the rest of the album fails to live up to the breadth of “City” and “Crumbs,” and while it takes serious missteps on the shockingly bad “Man and a Woman” and “Yahweh,” this is, by and large, an album to be thankful for, regardless of your demographic.
