JohnSFeb 3, 2004very solid album. without realising, it has been one of my most played cd's of the last few months - add The Unicorns to that as well. Thanks Pitchfork.

LexieApr 22, 2004My friend made me listen to this album. At first I complained about the vocals in Cough Coughing. Then I stopped. Because I had a dream and their music made a shopping experience enjoyable. Everybody in the world should buy it. No, seriously. Everybody. Even if you don't own any other cd on earth, or even own anything capable of playing music.

tinahMar 14, 2004Absolutely incredible. Why didn't anybody tell me indie rock contained this level of depth and emotion? I listened to this album non stop while reading Douglas Coupland's Hey Nostradamus! It was a perfect mix. Buy it. Buy it now.

[Anonymous]Jan 29, 2005Sorry... but its boring :(

NelsJDec 7, 2006I have no idea how anyone could deem this album "boring". Inventive and highly unconventional, this is a beautifully crafted album that clearly had a lot of time put into it. The first album in a long time that has kept me on my toes throughout the entire thing.

HelenR.Jan 31, 2004My only complaint is that this album was so hard to find. But then again, it made me feel like I had accomplished something that few others have once I discovered it for sale online. This is one of those rare bands that on one hand, I want to tell the whole world about and on the other, I want to keep all to myself. This is special.

EricJFeb 9, 2004One of those great surprises. There's more ideas in one of their songs than most bands have in their career. Run! No, SKIP to the store and buy this one now!

RafaelPJul 23, 2004In the words of No Ripcord " I can`t recommend this album strongly enought" This band is amazing!, as good as mars volta`s Deloused In The Comatorium or maybe better. This guys are original and talented. What else could a music fan want?

kevinsMay 12, 2004i was ready to chalk this album up as another overhyped pitchfork release. the first few listens did little to alter my opinion. then the melodies started slowly popping out at me from all over the place. two months later, i can hardly put the damn thing down. thank-you menomena.

droneAug 27, 2004Incredible, fabulous, wonderful, amazing. Pretty darn close to perfection.

Nov 29, 2021It will take at least ten listens before you hear everything that’s going on, and ten more to understand it, yet this is far from impenetrable; it boasts a melody line that any pop princess would sell her plastic soul for, and prompts the idea that Knopf and his cohorts have been hanging around a crossroads doing just the same.
Awards & Rankings
-
This is one of the albums of the year: completely out of left field and completely solid from start to finish.
-
I cant recommend this album strongly enough.
-
Menomena clearly thinks of itself as a clever bunch of musicians. Maybe next time around they'll be more interested in sharing their wit with their listeners rather than just alluding to it.
