Namjoon never fails to amaze me with his artistry and lyricism. He is the true definition of an artist in every sense of the word and I am so honoured to live in the same time period as him haha. It's also such a flex to have Erykah Badu as a feature, mad props to him for that.

Where do I start… I think it is unfair to reduce Namjoon to just a singer, a rapper, or an idol. He’s an ARTIST, and this album proves it. His pen is just out of this world. There isn’t a single skip in this album. I’m still obsessed with every single song on it, months after its release. My favorites might be Wildflower, Hectic and Closer, but I genuinely love the entire album.

I keep some songs close to me, like Yun, which is truly relaxing and carries a lot of emotion but in a smooth and kind way, Change pt2, which I find quite interesting musically and vocally has the most sincere emotion from RM, and No2 that I think is just the best out of all the songs. Wildflower is really out of left field for my musical tastes but I actually love the chorus, RM has great taste in other artists and is very good at picking out what voices & talents will mix well with his songs & voice ! In terms of lyrics, some imagery was quite impactful, it's a very reassuring album overall even though it knows when to dip into anger when needed, and I think a lot of people will find it relatable, thought it wasn't always the case for me, depending on the songs, I still am glad to see personal and original lyrics like those RM wrote for Indigo !

Simply put, I didn't particularly like all the productions on Indigo, I don't think that the album feels cohesive in terms of music from top to bottom, it starts and ends strongly but it loses me on some tracks like Forg_tful, Lonely or even Hectic, who really just don't land. It all feels very "clean" and proper, so I get why people would like this release for those qualities, but personnally I felt like it missed the honest emotions it wanted to bring out. As far as personal taste goes, I liked RM's rapping much more in this album than his singing, even though his singing in Mono deeply touched me, in this album it felt more like "this is who i want to be" singing than "this is who i am" singing, it felt unnatural in most of the songs.. very abstract but.. i get me. All in all, it was a peaceful listening experience, but it's not an album I'll keep close to me except for a few songs, and I'll stay curious to see what RM continues to bring out.

I don't like his singing voice, I don't feel its his strength, its just my personal taste. And I get he wanted to collaborate with people, but there were so many in this album it didn't feel like it was fully his. For his first official album I would have preferred for it to be an album of his own voice. The soundscape of this album, like Mono, are not to my taste at all personally. All these are my personal tastes, but the reason I gave it a low score instead of a neutral one, is because of the lyrics. RM has had some really clever lyrics over the years, but some of the lyrics on this album were far below what he is capable of. It was not his best lyricism. If it hadn't been for that I would have given it a neutral score. Expand

He might have done a good job in tapping the right artists for the collaborations, but apart from being a curator and a lyricist, the role of being a soloist or vocalist must be fulfilled.
Further, contrary to popular opinion, the lyrics lack the finesse that can be found in poetry. This leads to the disconnect between the songs and the “artistic” theme that the album tries to embrace.

Namjoon (RM) exceeded my expectations with INDIGO. His artistry is commendable!
I loved how each collaboration had a meaning to it and it wasn't made just for the sake of it. The album is a solid 10/10. Looking forward to more of his music !!

It is always a challenge to rate such a personal album as Indigo. Do you rate according to the impact of the song? The vibe? The production quality? The vibe? The production quality? When it comes to rating albums by BTS and its members, it becomes even harder as they usually bring all of those things, but rarely in a conventional way. Indigo is an intense personal story that Kim Namjoon has chosen to tell through 10 genres and with a plethora of artists. But don’t make the mistake to think that it is not cohesive. BTS have never spoken in genre, but in stories.
What you get with Indigo is for instance a funky Still Life feat. Anderson.Paak, the combative hip hop track All Day with Epik High’s Tablo, a philosophical neo-soul song Yun with Erykah Badu and a poppy yet intense Lonely. My personal favorite is the half-drunk demo-recording of the everchanging Change pt. 2. There are so many moods and vibes on this album, but what is left behind is a recognizable tumultuous journey through one’s 20s and from my own memories of that decade, I have BEEN each of Kim Namjoon’s songs. I look forward already to having him poetically write up the next decade for us both as well.

This feels like a gift to pass down to our upcoming generations. Something to lead them through life. A friend that guides them and give them hope but doesn't shy away from showing them the harsh reality. Namjoon, thank you for your music and companionship in my twenties. Always

As always it's very different than past projects by RM, the diversity of sound without losing cohesion along with the unmatched lyricism, only RM can do something like this and succeed! Not a single track that lacks all 10 tracks are 10/10 bops.

Listening the album from the first track to the end really taking me to RM’s life journey, as he claimed to be his life during 2018-2020? It’s all just make sense and he really think the order through. Kicked off with Yun, in which touch me so deep with “I wanna be a human ‘fore I do some art”. I think this is necessary to be mentioned because nowadays lots of artist forget this aspect towards their art. My personal favorite will be Closer. RM really picked the right artist to featured with him. When sometimes too much feature can ruined the song, RM, Mahalia and Paul Blanco holds each other’s hands and perfecting the whole song. The last bridge ascend me to another world.

The closing song, No.2 is heartwarming too. Saying good bye to his 20s with “No looking back” is what we all need to hear (and apparently most of the fans also find this relatable). What makes it even more special is how he picked Park Jiyoon to feature on it. I do remember the story of how she was having a hard time on her early career due to the agency’s persona put on her. I hope she’s also not looking back because this song felt like a pat in the back to me too. I had love mono (RM’s other mixtape) in other way, but Indigo is just THAT album that I need, especially when I’m about to bid farewell to my 20s too. Thank you, RM!

Indigo is an eye-opening taste of what RM is truly capable of outside the bounds of the K-pop powerhouse.
  2. 100
It’s too early to tell if the record will help the BTS leader achieve his goal of creating something truly timeless but, in this moment, ‘Indigo’ feels like a masterpiece with the potential to be remembered as a classic.

Some moments fall flat – Lonely is cloying, paint-by-numbers EDM-pop that doesn’t fully land. Still, Indigo is a polished collection that spans both pop and rap with confidence.
