An album that gives lie to the phrase "they don't make 'em like that anymore."

Quietly and slowly satisfying rather than a knock-out blow, Into the Waves is nevertheless a world away from the kind of self-centred and hollow record it could have been.

A fine album which might be too much of a period piece to truly be the 'sound of 2012' or somesuch, but has a greater chance of making Sophia Knapp into a minor unit-shifter than Lights or Cliffie Swan ever did.

Into the Waves is stylized, but its presentation still manages to suit its content.

Knapp's sweet voice is closer to Olivia Newton-John than [Stevie] Nicks, but nevertheless tracks like "Glasses High" and "The Right Place: have abundant charm, some superb, glowing arrangements. [Apr 2012, p.81]

Into the Waves is an invitation to float. The mature lyrics and vocal performances in conjunction with the flow of disco-like melodies makes you feel like you're walking the fine line between fantasy and reality. It's a lovely indulgence.

While it's quite pleasant and occasionally curious at first, the novelty wears off.
