Instant classic and perfectly mature for a debut album. I can't totally describe my feelings toward this album even after a month of listening! Kali Uchis is a really strong woman who can make her own style despite the presence of so many solid collaborators. The use of Spanish in several songs really support its ambience.

Her growth from Drunken Babble has finally reached the climax and an album like this indicates that this climax will be long lasting. This album will obviously end up on so many year end lists and it's well deserved for a great artist who's been underrated for so many years. Expand

Kali really did what she was trying to do with this one. The album has this awesome atmosphere that surrounds every single track - and because of that don't think they're all the same; they're totally unique. What can I say? It's perfect.

I randomly downloaded this album and listened to it in full while riding the bus, and that was simply amazing. The album really works as a whole : each sound is different yet cohesive, each track took my mind to a different place, and overall it was extremely relaxing to listen to. LOVED IT

A great debut album for an up and coming artist. She strikes me as having the energy of a young Amy Winehouse and with great production and features from Tyler the Creator, The Gorillaz, and more this is an excellent pop record.

In his meteoric rise from anonymous to the big public to one of the biggest bets of 2018, Kali Uchis uses his spicy Latin seasoning in conjunction with a diverse list of big names on his back to get attention, of course that second part does not mean almost nothing compared to the talent that the Colombian exudes. Uchis comes undone in his debut which is already considered one of the best works of the year.

Isolation (Virgin / 2018) is the debut album of the Colombian star, a work that can be divided into two instinctively moving parts, the first marked by a more radio sound and a second where the artist leaves his person hitmaker and delivery an even more intimate work, without ceasing to experience sounds, one of the registry mark. Kali Uchis proves that not having a comfort zone does not mean a bad job. What's more, Isolation is a nice taste that eating from the sides can result in an excellent result, after several partnerships and a not so commented EP, your album came out of the universally acclaimed oven, a beautiful achievement for a debut.

The work is an armistice between contemporary tendencies and the old school, both coexisting in harmony. A springy air rules the album along with a warm nostalgia, it is a magnificent experience. Kali sings in a calm and sensual way, without sounding fabricated or forced, an excellent job, diverse of influences and collaborators, some very unusual, and the most unusual of all is that she performs well in all of them, from reggaeton in the sunny and provocative "Nuestro Planeta" (A beautiful sample of his potential of hitmaker) until the psychedelismo of Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) in Tomorrow. A work about the jovial strength of an immigrant in a new country, a bold and sincere album.

In the fifteen tracks on her debut album, the artist demonstrates a mastery and dexterity that only someone with a natural gift or a great time of dedication could demonstrate. Far from being conformist or eccentric, Isolation is, above all, a great record and I lack adjectives to describe how much this album deserves to be heard.

A job well done and cohesive, in which Kali shows rhythm variants that incorporate Psychedelic Pop, R&B, Latino and Hip-Hop / Rap. An album worth listening to.

The best r&b album since Sza-Ctrl. I really enjoyed the tone of this album. It has great songwriting and production for each track. The sound of the album is different from Por Vida. I really love the growth. This is the best album I heard all year. The features on this album are great. Overall, if you love good music, listen to this album. Add this to your playlist.

I enjoyed this album even thought her voice is really nothing special, she sings with the same monothone voice on every song but the songs themselves are nice. Not bad overall.

Even though obviously drawing inspiration from a lot of musical pioneers around her, Kali Uchis manages to sound like no one else other than herself. Kali's lyricism is smart, and the music, always bald, covers on a wide variety, ranging from hardcore R&B ("Miami", "Just a Stranger") to psychedelic new wave ("Tomorrow", co-written with Kevin Parker, could easily fit on Tame impala's "Currents" album) to even funk ("After the Storm", an excellent collab with Tyler, the Creator). She even sounds like Amy Winehouse on "Feel Like a Fool", and another absolute highlight is "Flight 22", a love song inspired by a plane crash, that establishes Uchis as a versatile artist, willing to go miles with all types of sounds.
It's safe to say that "Isolation" is a soulful and vibrant record, setting a bar so high for the rest of Uchis' career.

Isolation is a record that feels rich, self-assured and deeply personal--and one that should ensure Uchis isn’t relegated to second billing ever again.

For all its entertaining art-pop feats, Isolation is just as remarkable for serious moments like "Killer," in which Uchis reaches a high degree of anguish that only real-life experience can arouse.

With such a wide-ranging collection of retro sounds blended into one record, the fact that the album’s near 45-minute runtime avoids any real stale moments is another triumph from Uchis.
