Sep 10, 2018The album works best when the technology evokes abject isolation. ... Despite the complexity and insight it offers in its lyrics, the jumbled rhythms on “$$$ Huntin’” trip up any groove the song might otherwise achieve. Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune often loses its footing at moments like this, when the tempo picks up.

Sep 7, 2018Sometimes it's hard to tell if Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune is meant to be some sort of parody of current R&B production techniques, or a conscious effort to upturn Swamp Dogg's music and send it someplace no one would expect to find it. Either way, it's obvious that Swamp Dogg still knows how to write a song, and even at the age of 76, he's still vital, passionate, and eager to throw a curveball at the expectations of anyone and everyone. Talk about Total Destruction to Your Mind.

Sep 7, 2018The electronics are employed more to create the reverie of thinking about the past. But Dogg doesn't just let the feelings lie. He closes with bombast and fanfare as his voice and the instrumentation get louder until the fade out. It's a fitting way to end the album, with a strong declaration of love and loss.
