There are few albums that will make you experience so many emotions concurrently, and even fewer that will still give you chills hours later. Even though it may be tough to swallow some of the brutish feeling, it’s an exceptional record.

Love Your Dum And Mad is certainly not an easy listen and demands close attention. But give yourself over to the close, fascinating world Shah inhabits and you will be utterly enthralled.

At times a lick more panache might have leavened proceedings, but ‘Winter Reigns” celebration of the great English pub (where “the dark’s never far behind”, naturally) rounds out this confident debut in style.

The weight of the album and the somber nature of its subjects can nearly get too much at times. Yet it’s the lightness and dexterity in Nadine’s voice and songwriting that means she has created an album of stories that will warm you and keep you company.

Shah always find a way to keep Love Your Dum and Mad simultaneously heartbreaking and inspiring throughout.

She’s every bit the equal of Bat For Lashes, Frida Hyvönen or any member of the Wainwright clan.

It takes a while to adjust to the darkness generated by these songs of loss, age and adultery, but once you have, you won't want to leave Shah's night visions behind. [Aug 2013, p.104]
