SamVJan 2, 2006She's back to what she does best...rocking.

CherylRMar 3, 2004I was impressed, for someone who normally stays away from her musical style.

MarkBDec 22, 2004Doesn't break much, if any, new ground, but has more passion and staying power than the 2004 critics' faves (Loretta Lynn, Franz Ferdinand among them).

JuliaSFeb 27, 2004Excellent mix of hard-driving rock and soft ballads.

Melissa Etheridge wears her heart on her sleeve and anywhere else she can think to plaster it, and in that regard, Lucky -- despite some songs that are, by her standards, upbeat and celebratory -- doesn't break the mold.
-
Sounding like a Pabst Blue Ribbon-slamming cross between John Cougar Mellencamp and Janis Joplin, Etheridge unleashes pool-hall rockers... as if every night is Friday night.

"Lucky" kicks off the proceedings; it's a buoyant, blistering winner of a song. Unfortunately, the track is also one of the disc's few high points.
