    This album is like a door into another world. So original, so carefully crafted, so rewarding. There are comparison touch points like Leonard Cohen or Hope Sandoval but they really don't give you an idea of what you're about to hear. I just can't believe that in a moment like right now, 2011 A.D., that an album possesses this kind of delicacy and patience to reward the listener in waysThis album is like a door into another world.     Marissa Nadler returns with eerie songs that remind her last albums, she offers a new musical progress compared to her previous work, but no musical innovation as such. What makes this album worthwhile is the quality that Marissa has a songwriter, this album is full of beautiful lyrics which together with her great vocal performance make this album a magical and captivating gem.     The main problem is that the songs are so quietly pretty that they slip by without friction, so that you're halfway through the album before you've registered a shift in mood or tempo.

    She may remain an intimate, closely held artist for a certain sect of listeners, but by any standards hers is some powerful, accomplished songwriting-and in many ways Marissa Nadler epitomizes this ever-maturing skill more lucidly than any of her prior work.

    This is an expansive and striking collection of songs that reaches out even in its most quiet moments and, in the end, evokes plenty of melancholy-but Nadler's greatest feat here is the way she seduces us into that world.
