This sad attempt at soul music, made by a warbler from the middle of nowhere, never received support from the R&B/Hip-Hop radio stations here in Washington, DC. And she still won't. Because people know that this is BS.

Never patronize music made from a racist and anti-Semitic person. She supported racist and anti-Semitic Ron Paul back in late 2011, remember? Even worse, her album sales went up because of that. Racism isn't cool, okay?

How anyone can still support Kelly Clarkson even after she admits to physically assaulting her own children is beyond me.

Yet at the same time, she couldn't care less about civil rights issues pertaining to African Americans, as she vies to be the prime R&B star for Trump's America.

During a time when urban music is especially more creative, with artists like Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, SZA, Solange Knowles, et al. releasing compelling records, Kelly Clarkson instead mixes Breakaway and Piece By Piece into a blender and then adding R&B beats to it to sound innovative. That proves that when it comes to her essence (or lack thereof), little has changed from her American Idol machine days. A change in record label company won't change that sentiment.

I really don't care about the charts for this album. The fact that she came out with this album is everything I needed from her. I've been stanning ever since the Breakaway-era, and to have this album is such a joy. I can hear Aretha, Whitney, Mariah and Tina throughout this record, but it still feels so very Kelly with her pop sensibilities

The best album of 2017 from any pop girl.

The best album of 2017 from any pop girl. Honest. Real. Breathtaking. There is no weak songs on this album and no fillers. Real Kelly and her strong vocal is this what we always wanted. Nothing manufactured and nothing forced. In my opinion she is at the same level with Adele. Meaning of Life it’s her the best album she even released and changing the label helped her a lot plus this support from Atlantic Records is just phenomenal!!! Recommend this album to anyone who appreciates strong vocals and soul music! Hats OFF!!!

Although not ridiculous or restraining in any way, Clarkson’s strong voice couldn’t save an album so lethargic in presentation with repetition of lousy monotony and indiscernible boring textures, creating nothing but a soulful sellout sound that the world doesn’t need which further taints a once stellar career. This is Kelly's most cohesive album and her voice has never sounded better. While she may have appreciated a considerable amount of success in the pop rock genre she never seemed entirely comfortable with it. Soulful music is her sweet spot and we've known this since we first met her singing Etta James and Aretha Franklin on Idol.
Any comment about her appropriating black music is nonsense, I say this as a black woman, she's always mentioned and praised the black artists who influenced her going back to her Idol days and has been quite vocal and had the blessing of those who she's named as influences for this album. She sung for the Obamas numerous times and was even asked by Michelle Obama to jump on her "This Is For My Girls" track so any comments about her love for Michelle Obama being fake or false are coming from someone grossly uninformed. BTW, the song dedicated to Michelle Obama is 'Go High', a slight departure from the rest of the album but a great way to finish on a high note. Kelly received a note from Michelle Obama about loving the song.
While the album may be a tad overproduced, it never takes away from the pure emotion that Kelly pours into each song. She has always been able to evoke emotion better than anyone else and does it expertly on this album, particularly on songs like I Don't Think About You and Meaning of Life.
More confident than she has ever been, the album makes it abundantly clear that Kelly is a bit tired of being humble and wants to take her place as one of the greatest vocalists of our generation. She succeeded. There is nobody more versatile, no voice more powerful and no person more able to evoke emotion than Kelly and it is what makes this album so stunning. It is without a doubt her best work.

goddamn. I knew she'd outdo Stronger and Piece by Piece, but not this drastically. Kelly delivers ridiculously strong bops as always (Medicine, Love So Soft, Heat), her unparalleled intuitive balladry (Move You, I Don't Think About You), a sensual jam (Slow Dance) and even a track reminiscent of Breakaway (Would You Call That Love sounds a lot like a soulful, mature You Found Me). onlygoddamn. Yes, that’s right. After her win (2002), the original American Idol was stuck under a contract with the network for FIFTEEN years! Fifteen! No wonder she completely revamped her sound as soon as she got the chance. “Meaning Of Life” has left generic Kelly behind and brought a completely new “Whole Lotta Woman” filled with soul, attitude and groove. Pop wasn’t forgotten though. As Clarkson pointed out, “it still is Pop” but it has more to it and a few full Pop songs are still present in case of an emergency, take for example my personal favorite production (and track overall), “Go High”, the extremely catchy “Medicine” (a big contender for a future single along with the groovy “Heat”) or - my other personal favorite - “Would You Call That Love”. Those are exceptions though. “Love So Soft” - the album’s first single - was all we needed to know change was coming. The perfect balance between Pop and Soul in the track is unbelievable and Clarkson’s vocals, especially during the bridge, are out of this world.

Before the album dropped, Kelly released a few more songs. Among them is one of the album’s most beautiful songs, “Move You”, where Clarkson sings about wanting to move someone and compares it to beautiful images such as like a “montage in a movie” or like “an echo in a canyon”. Without a doubt one of the album’s best lyrics, and if you thought Kelly was all about ballads (“Because Of You”, “Piece By Piece”, “Already Gone”), there is solely one more in the record, the piano-driven track “I Don’t Think About You”. The remaining part of the album is indeed dedicated to this new sound Kelly explored in the record. In “Whole Lotta Woman”, Kelly proves she can get as many “Respect” as Aretha even though that type of music isn’t exactly my cup of tea - “Cruel” and “Slow Dance” take the crown when it comes to the best soul tracks of the record.

With all this being said, I think it’s pretty obvious to confirm that I have fallen in love with “Meaning Of Life” and can easily say it is one of Clarkson’s best projects.

There are light nods to the times—single “Love So Soft” lightly updates Thankful’s Christina Aguilera-penned “Miss Independent” and Breakaway’s “Walk Away” with a half-time chorus, and tracks like “Didn’t I” and “Heat” recalls Adele’s collaborations with Max Martin. But the rest is stubbornly old-fashioned: sloughing off the flakiness of the millennial male while extolling the virtues of taking it slow and pushing for commitment.
