    Perfection from start to finish. Perhaps my favourite album of all time. Every song is overwhelming, and I seem to make new discoveries upon every listen.

    Lorde is an unlikely pop star who rose to fame based on a dark, moody aesthetic very much running antithetical to all things culturally of the time. With her second album Melodrama she continues the trend she started and delivers more poetic, almost spoken word, lyricism backed by quirky production flourishes. Although this album has a lot of Lorde's signature flavour and by no means is itLorde is an unlikely pop star who rose to fame based on a dark, moody aesthetic very much running antithetical to all things culturally of the time. With her second album Melodrama she continues the trend she started and delivers more poetic, almost spoken word, lyricism backed by quirky production flourishes. Although this album has a lot of Lorde's signature flavour and by no means is it a bad record, it is a little formulaic in how it seeks to supplant itself in people's subconscious. Lorde's first effort Pure Heroine shook the industry to its core based on its unique, fresh sound. Melodrama attempts to continue in that vein but does not introduce enough new moments for it to make as big of a statement. There are a few homeruns ("Green Light" and "Supercut") and Lorde fans will no doubt be pleased with this offering, but it doesn't quite showcase the amount of growth we would have hoped given the four year hiatus between records.… Expand

    Não tem um defeito, todas as músicas seguem uma linha excelente e possuem letra profundas e capazes de te fazer refletir bastante sobre, destaque para todas mas perfect places segue sendo minha favorita de todas, liability me tocou de uma forma especial, Lorde conseguiu representar perfeitamente os sentimentos de um jovem e suas aflições em cada canção

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lorde’s 2017 release “Melodrama” is what i call a perfect album. A pop perfection album front to back. “Melodrama” is one of the most forward thinking pop records of our time. The opener “Green Light” flows seamlessly between passages on jarring yet beautiful piano to swelling synths, this was also the lead single for this record showing Lorde’s new adopted style and segmenting her name within pop history. While this record has a sense of uniformity between the tracks, there is not one song that sounds too similar to another. A prime example of this is the albums centerpiece “Liability” & “Writer In The Dark”, in “Liability” Lorde lightly swings across the extremely heart breaking lyrics about an ex relationship and the ripples it has left on herself. While in “Writer In The Dark” we have a similar narrative story wise yet the sonic difference between the two piano ballads is jarring. In “Liability” Lorde is lightly almost whispering over some simple piano cords, while in “Writer In The Dark” we have a similar opening, the track slowly builds to this gut wrenching chorus as Lorde sings “I bet you’ll rue the day you kissed a writer in the dark”, I love the crack in her voice as she wails over these lush strings that feel as though we as the listener are the ex lover she is speaking of. Among the perfect run of eleven songs “Hard Feelings/Loveless” is one of my personal favorite. This songs true beauty is how weird it is. These Loud synths that sound like something out of video game come rushing in as these booming drums come in and out of the bridge of “Hard Feelings”, then suddenly cut out as the song fades right into its second half “Loveless”. A song so incredibly different narratively and sonically to it’s sister yet I couldn’t imagine the two apart. From the heartbreak anthem of “Supercut”, to the constant house party of “Sober/Sober II” & “Homemade Dynamite”. “Melodrama” is truly perfect album. And what I consider pop perfection. The fruits of Melodrama’s labor are now starting to show in the current land scape of the music industry, from artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Gray, and even Taylor Swift. Showing that they all have ripped a page out of the book of “Melodrama”. Melodrama is album that will stand the test of time, and will continue to show its influences for many years to come.… Expand

    The production is wise and lovely, the concept is extraordinary, vocals are great as well. The songwriting overall is reasonable , some songs have great lyrics, and others are less strong. On some songs the production is too similar, for example on Green Light and Supercut, though all songs    Lorde delivers a great pop concept album, with superb rawness and some of the best hooks of 2017.

    A gorgeous album about growing past a breakup. Sonically beautiful, catchy and with fantastic vocals and lyrics.

    While there isn't a dud on the tracklist, the highlights (for myself, at least) were Liability, Writer in the Dark and Supercut. Even my least favourite track, Green Light, carries the feeling of dancing through the pain.
    This is, very nearly, the perfect pop album.

    5 years later and it has aged like fine wine. It deserved to win Album of the Year at the 2018 Grammys. Melodrama’s impact is incredible.

    Lorde vocals can give us a lot of emotions that perfectly fits with the    Lorde delivered one of the best albums of all time. I'm not joking.
    The production of Melodrama is an insane set of very well worked chords that can transition you to one song to another with so much mastery that you don't even get tired when you think about the fact that you'll listen to her for about 42 minutes.
    Lorde vocals can give us a lot of emotions that perfectly fits with the extravagant theatricality drama that she wants to brings up with the title of the album. The very exaggerated emotions that the songs together (and separate) cause in the listener can be felt every time you listen to the album again, like Supercut, you can get easily what Lorde is feeling inside the song.
    My favorite track is Homemade Dynamite. The whole song getting more and more full of backing vocals and the instrumental changing along with the history that Lorde is telling us is exciting to listen and the "Now you know it's really gonna blow" cuts out all of the expectations when you listen for the first time. The chorus and "d-d-dynamite" brings up the proposal of the song the funniest way, even the lyrics talking about a explosive relationship.
    Melodrama is a work of art and served the drama of the theaters on an set of musics that together can inspire so much feelings, I hope that one day this album will be exposed in the place it belongs, The Louvre Museum.    … Expand

    this album is to dance to but to cry to the perfect album for teenagers and 20yo worrying about growing up adulthood relationships and all of that.
    I'm 17 and i relate to this albums lyrics on another level.
    this is an album you should listen to at least once in your life [obvi listen to it more]
    it changed my life on so many levels

    As much as I love this album, I cannot lie that most songs are forgettable. The more memorable tracks, liability and writer in the dark, showcase her emotions and her 'hard feelings'. Nonetheless, the album is pretty good but it has some useless tracks such as liability (reprise).

'Liability' features my favorite lyric of all time: 'play at romance, we slow dance / in the living room, but all a stranger would see / is one girl, swaying alone, stroking her cheek'. the production of 'Green Light' breaks every rule of pop music therefor me, a song is mainly made up of three components: lyrics, production, vocals. every song on Melodrama does all three exceptionally. Standout tracks for me were The Louvre, Liability (reprise) and Perfect Places. Perfect Places actually leaves me feeling more energetic and wanting to start the album over. It's a very cohesive album with good flow. I loved the track sequence and the album length. My actual score is actually 8.49/10 but I'm going to rate it 9 as I have a good feeling this album will only get better over time.    … Expand

Though it is written about being adolescent and immature the sounds feel so “tremendous” and wide, so you just can’t encompass all that stuff in the first place. Apple Music says this album is for “alternative” music which is quite wrong as for me. This work contains multiple styles beginning with the futurism and ending up with some pop chords. IOne of the best album I’ve ever listened. Though it is written about being adolescent and immature the sounds feel so “tremendous” and wide, so you just can’t encompass all that stuff in the first place. Apple Music says this album is for “alternative” music which is quite wrong as for me. This work contains multiple styles beginning with the futurism and ending up with some pop chords. I deem this album stands at the intersection of different music, that’s what makes this work so unique. My favourite song of “Melodrama” is precisely “The Louvre”. If I’m not mistaken this song has a strong social context hidden inside. The sentence “Broadcast the boom boom boom and make ‘em all dance to it” refers to the absence of any uniqueness in pop music, in my opinion. I reckon “boom boom” melodies are not complex to create, and making someone dancing to them is like creating the society disregarding the art as the form of self-expression. “Green Light” is a good dance track. Of course, no one will turn it on when the party comes, but it is perfectly suitable for home parties when you dance on your own feeling the freedom and happiness. “Supercut” reminds me experimental alternative albums that I’ve heard by hyperpop artists. The rhythm feels so right when you try to understand the melody, especially when the lyrics of the song concurrently stop with the sound. The track name looks weird in the first place, but after some time ruminating about the meaning of the song you come to the unique conclusion that opens up all the sides of “Supercut”. The reprise of “Liability” is an ambient track that fills up your earholes with an airy, sometimes squeaky voice. It sounds so experimental and cool.
    To sum up I want to say that “Melodrama” is the album you have to listen anyway if you’re eager to be a smart listener. Rolling Stones think that this album is one of the best artworks that have ever been created, and I don’t think it is wrong. The problems of adolescents, which contain love, breakups, hardships, difficulties, happiness and misunderstanding are combined in “Melodrama”. Even though the teendom is not a clear and explicit theme we all understand easily what Lorde tries to say. Her genius deserves the best, that’s why it brought her the fame.    … Expand

    Sin duda uno de los mejores albumes que he escuchado. Sus canciones sensillamente emocionantes, me provocan mucho bienestar. No hay manera de mejorar la produccion de las canciones y sin duda denuestra su talento vocal.

    Totally deserves its score; the best pop album of the 2010s in all honesty. Totally captures young heartbreak in the sound and the lyricism. Probably my favourite album of all time and definitely her best work so far.

    melodrama is such a masterpiece. the whole album takes you through a journey. lorde's heartbreak really took this album out of this galaxy. truly one of the best works put out there by any artist.

    Best albums I have heard in my life. It is the most beautifull peace of art I've ever seen. The lyrics show an evolution from her first album and you can see she has grow up.

    Just perfection like truly. Lorde really outdid herself. Every song on this album is amazing including the homemade dynamite remix. If you havnt listened to this album yet I recommend.

    There are no gimmicks. There’s nothing screaming for acceptance. Melodrama is a raw, real album under its sparkly clean production. One written for the masses but able to resonate with each individual listener.
