Whatever happens next, she can rest assured safe in the knowledge that together with her beau they've conjured up one of 2012's--or any other year in recent memory--finest debuts.
  2. What it all adds up to isn't big-push psych loonycakes like The Flaming Lips, but something more subtly disorienting.

[A] luscious layercake of flange and Echoplex. [Jan 2013, p.90]

Breathy vocals, immensely hooky songwriting and a brilliantly defined technicolor aesthetic established from the very beginning. Such description could have been thrown at Stereolab in the early '90s and at Broadcast in the early 2000s.

Each song can stand strongly on its own or the entire record can work as a cohesive whole (most records are one or the other).

Sophisticated yet uncomplicated, misty yet vibrant, luxurious yet disquieting, 'Melody's Echo Chamber' is a lovely record full of dualities.

Crystallised, in particular, kicks into a deeply satisfying psych-rock crunch halfway through - a reverb-heavy, robust foil for Prochet's feathery voice. But for much of the unfocused second half of the album, their sounds stray into Stereolab-lite.

Kevin Parker's main project Tame Impala got all of the attention last year, but this is his album that should have been getting the attention. It is a much stronger album, very experimental, with incredible cutting guitar riffs and beautifully brooding synths. The weird noises, the buzzes and the laser sounds fit better with this particular sound than they do on Lonerism. Beatles influences are still present, but don't dominate the record as they did on Lonerism, personally I hear more of a Radiohead influence than a Beatles influence here. I also prefer Melody Prochet's singing to Kevin Parker's but that is all personal preference as both are incredible vocalists. I think this is a much better realized album then Lonerism and is Kevin Parker's best work to date. Incredible album, fans of Tame Impala, Psychedelia and Indie Rock should love this album. 10/10, it's as perfect as an album can get! Expand

Plenty of variation with the music, never sticks to one formula for a long period. The only thing preventing it from getting a 10 is the final track, "be proud of your kids" which is fairly irritating. Get it! Expand
