While not as polished as the newer albums (as one would expect). This whole album has dirt and sleaze running all the way through (in a good way). Beth Ditto is seriously underrated at an artist due to her size and sexuality and I just hope people can get past that and realise how freakin amazing she is and how her and the rest of the band mesh together so perfectly.

The Village Voice called this their "Dud of the Month" when it came out and said they need a bass player. I think they said similar things about The Ramones, so I guess that means that this is a punk rock masterpiece. And hey, it is. I think I know how to read the Village Voice now. Seldom.

Beth Ditto's remarkable gospel holler and fervent anti-sexist agenda deserves--no, demands--to be heard by a much bigger audience. [Aug 2003, p.106]

The Gossip keeps getting better, stretching a little more. [#59, p.95]
  3. Face it, folks--when it comes to putting good old rock 'n' roll on record, a bass player really helps.
