Slim shady is back and better than ever. After two polarizing albums in the past three years, eminem brought us this new record inspired by the same titular album from alfred hitchcock "Music to be murdered by". After two polarizing albums in the past three years, eminem brought us this new record inspired by the same titular album from alfred hitchcock "Music to be murdered by". The tracks central theme is murdering the entire rap game like he did on his first three albums at the early 2000's. The best tracks of this album were Godzilla, featuring the late rapper Juice wrld with a Speedo type of verse that could pump anyone's day. Following up is the first single, darkness depicting eminem's usual dark themes but with a huge twist that should not be spoiled by this review. The album have major features that makes it unique in comparison to his other records that have artists outside of shady records. It is also the driving force of the album because it let eminem demonstrate how relevant he can be even next to his younger peers while also mentioning the legends of the rap game that inspired him to partake in the first place like Jay Z, 2pac, Trench from naughty by nature, etc. The instrumentation fits the tone of the entire album by incorporating relapse-ish beats by dr dre while also featuring Royce da 5'9 production techniques that made this album a gem in it's own way. The track stepdad is the only song where it is the most eminem trademarked track in comparison with the others but it is not too distracting like the track from relapse "My mom", it somewhat takes itself seriously and also comedic by the way the song elevates itself. The rock samples are almost none resistance as this album front and center are hip hop and trap beats which is a huge improvement over the last two albums already. Overall this is eminem's best record since the Marshall mathers LP 2 and will be remembered by the unique features and incredible wordplay that contains memorable lines that can be up there with his older material Expand

So much so that we as fans compare him to his own self and his earlier albums. It’s the same reason Lebron James hasn’t received league MVP at least 14 times in a row. When someone is great we as a society get complacent and become used to their greatness. In this album Eminem has tracks for a variety of his fans. If you are into wordplay, lyrics, punchlines, metaphors, and bars you will love this album, he has all of those from beginning to end. His flow is still crisp and he has so many different cadences that he can navigate through the beats with. He can rap Twista fast with precise punctuation. Dr Dre’s print is on a couple beats, but if that’s what you came for you won’t really get those, I mean he does have 20 tracks. His tracks that have features from Skylar and most of Slaughterhouse, and others are good. The Ed Sheeran track is ok, but not my favorite or the one featuring MA. I like MA but next to Em I personally don’t want to hear her on the same track. Oh and about that track, that’s the “controversial” track.... here’s the controversy:

Showed them all the blueprint and formula
But it seems like the more they studied my music, the more they remind me of eyeballs
I'm watching my pupils get cornier (Uh)
But I'm contemplating yelling "Bombs away" on the game
Like I'm outside of an Ariana Grande concert waiting

It was a metaphor, which artist that use words use all the time and far worse one might I add. The whole point was to get his point across. We gonna be mad about that? So comedians can’t tell jokes and music artist have to also not use metaphors that have anything tragic in it. Smh. He has storytelling with bars and it’s a good track too. Overall I enjoy the album. I enjoy lyrics and the fundamentals of hip hop. I can swallow a bottle of alcohol and I'll feel like Godzilla
Better hit the deck like the card dealer
My whole squad's in here, walking around the party
A cross between a zombie apocalypse and big Bobby "The
Brain" Heenan which is probably the
Same reason I wrestle with mania
    Shady's in this **** I'm posse'd up
Consider it to cross me a costly mistake
If they sleepin' on me, the hoes better get insomnia
    ADHD, hydroxycut
    Pass the Courvoisi' (Hey, hey)
In AA with an AK, melee, finna set it like a playdate
Better vacate, retreat like a vacay, mayday
    This beat is cray-cray, Ray J, H-A-H-A-H-A

This being said, MTBMB is a fantastic return to form for Slim Shady on many levels and feels like the album he’s been trying to make for the better part of the past decade. Still crisp, and as sharp as ever, yet somehow makes his old tricks feel new again and work here. The wordplay throughout the album is simply brilliant and not rivaled by anyone else on the planet. The right mix of serious and humorous songs combined with the best production on an Eminem album in quite sometime, ditching the Rick Rubin rap rock efforts in exchange for more contemporary and dark themes which fit perfectly with the albums title and concept. This alongside a great set of guest features, makes me have to rate this as the best Eminem album since Recovery. I’m giving this a 9, with the understanding that classic albums such as The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show reserve the 10. This falls just shy of those efforts but overall, MTBMB is a work of genius.

The features as well are PHENOMENAL on this album such as Anderson .Paak, Black Thought, Don Toliver, Royce Da 5'9" (not new but he really shined on all 3 verses), etc. As for the main attraction (Eminem) he performs well but not flawless . His flows range from speed, mellow to complex/unique and are overall solid. The content isn't all new but it's hard to blame him since he's been in the game for more than 20 years and everyone only has so much stories to tell. He does keep it fresh on some tracks like Darkness where he raps from the perspective of the Las Vegas shooter that is also a double entendre from Em' POV on how he use to take an unhealthy amount of substance before a show. tracks like these always take it to the next level when they're made by Em. His pen game is once again great with clever bars and complex rhyme schemes which isn't new from Em but never gets old. One tiny Critique i have is the concept of the album. It's supposed to be some sort of murder rendition with inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock but most songs don't fit it. First couple of tracks do with him once again firing back at critics and some song throughout the project have a dark vibe but some don't fit in at all. The dysfunctional relationship songs for example seem filler and seems like the only purpose they have is to give the listener a breath of fresh air to take a break from the aggressive and intense cuts on the project. They aren't terrible but they don't need to be there. His chorus game has improved majorly but he also has some that aren't so great. I Will is my personal favorite from the whole project while Em gives us some of his best singing vocals since the Eminem Show era. My favorite hooks from Eminem on this album are; Unaccommodating, Darkness, Little Engine, Farewell & I Will.
I love the energy in this album, he finally sounds motivated and comfortable. On his previous two albums he sounded sort of lost and confused at to what his fans wanted to hear but I feel like he just made what he wanted to make and in the end he sounds the best when he goes in that direction.
My Favorite Tracks are: Unaccommodating, You Gon' Learn, Godzilla, Darkness, Little Engine, Lock it up, No Regrets & I Will
My Least Favorite tracks are: In Too Deep & Stepdad

One of his best project since Recovery. The production is great in this one, probably better than anything he put out after Recovery.

Yea, I know, the first time we all heard XXXplosive, we knew we were listening to a banger, but classic...a classic takes time to see if it can stand up to the fickleness of the culture.

Outkast, Snoop, Big, Kanye, Jay, Em, Dre, Cube, Tribe, have all blessed the culture with perfect albums in their hay day. Outkast, arguably has 2, Dre has produced several, and now add to that list his latest work with Shady.

The album has heft, and feels heavy for modern culture to blast in 1 session. But inevitably when my attention is drawn elsewhere after 5 tracks, and i put it down, walking away feeling like Shady has been resurrected. Then, minutes, hours, or days later, when I come back to the album, and hit play again, I am transported to that same feeling.

MTBMB is a literally the definition of a banger. Shady gives you so many different styles and transitions. Is it perfect, no. That's not why I am giving it 10 stars. I would have left 1 or 2 songs off the LP. But, is it a classic? **** YES. The double entendres, puns, imagery, storytelling, leap frog any album released in the past 10 years.

    Guess who's back...

This is his best album in a long time. I loved kamikaze but this feels more like his old stuff and I love all of the features on this album. Hip hop is terrible the last few years and this is a breath of fresh air.

favorite album since TES. the lyricism, wordplay, flexibility, and em's sheer technical skill are on point as always, but what really makes this album truly phenomenal is the fantastic production and studded features. Each track does not disappoint, and it's easily going in my books as an instant classic in his discography and a personal favorite album.

A solid album that gives an impression that Eminem is coming back to the right shape.
There are still some minor flaws like silly puns that brings nothing to the table, a couple of weird beat choices and hooks (Hello, Skylar and Ed), but it doesn't really bother that much once you are concentrate on everything that is good about this album.

Wow, really unexpected features, beats. After Kamikaze, I was expecting more collabs with TayKeith, RonnyJ and Boi-1da cause those songs was dope, but instead he went with his old pals. And Im glad he did it. Amazing album, this is what Revival should've been sound like

Another masterpiece he totally sounds a wee less angry on this one (which kinda mad me sad cause i love angry em) tracks are shorter also which is a nice thing cause you wouldn't Get bored, i also like mature em become since MMLP and TMS now he's focusing on relevant issues concerning his country, he also heated down the beefs

MTBMB is one of his best albums ever.

For real, this album is already a classic for me. The Eminem we see today is the best version of him in his career. He's the same Slim Shady from 1997 but grown up and sober, and even better lyrically. This album almost has no bad songs. It's somehow the mix of best of Revival and best of Kamikaze which makes it a masterpiece.

This is a slap in the face of today's rap culture that implies that rappers can't be lyrical in certain types of beats. Eminem murders every single line in a vicious and fast lyrical rampage. Great and really unexpected features. This is best album we've seen from Eminem since MMLP2, and he delivers it. Absolutely phenomenal and unexpected.
The replay value of this album is a bit of a hit and miss, while I personally disliked a few songs, and already put a few others in my rap playlist, this is an album we'll be remembering for sure.
Eminem shows us that he can indeed wake up Slim Shady and deliver a hell of an album if he feels like it.
The complains are personal picks, I absolutely hate when he screams at the mic, he needs to stop doing that, his accents and voice changes are perfect, don't need to ruin that with screaming.
He should also stop singing, a little bit of singing is fine but I've noticed this has been increasing since MMLP2 and it doesn't need to.
He should also try and incorporate Slim Shady in a few classic beats and flows like he did in MMLP and The Eminem Show.
Overall, this is a great album, it deserves the love, and sets Eminem in a really great path to achieve the perfect album again.

Great concept, great storytelling, great metaphors and punchlines and double/triple entendres, great features, great beats, record breaking rapid fire spitting, experimentation and growth all coupled in with with the controversy and disses we have come to expect from an Eminem album. This album also balances the sound of the 90's era and the modern hip hop sound.

    I have been hearing this

I have been hearing this is regarded as his best album since the Eminem show and even though I've also loved his recent works I have to agree

What's more impressive is Eminem has pulled this off after more than 20 years into his Career after already becoming the bestselling artist of the 21st Century, 2000's artist of the decade, best selling male artist of the 2010's, achieving 9 no. 1 beduing solo albums (+3 no.1 group albums) in 2 other decades and this will likely be his record breaking 10th no.1 in a 3rd decade. He has also birthed and influenced many of the most popular artists today and Let's not even get started on Awards, which of course don't mean everything but certainly carry some weight.

This is an artist who has remained on top through the casette/CD era, the Napster/illegal download era, the digital/social media era, and now the streaming era. Looking forward to Eminem dominating the next era

He clearly cares about his output, but “Music To Be Murdered By” is, unfortunately, another mixed bag of tricks, propped up by lyrical acrobatics and underwhelming production.

If they look hard enough, any artist could find criticism of their work online. That’s sort of the curse of the Information Age. But not everyone overreacts quite as much as Eminem does. But if his fears grow tiring, his lyrical ability can still give you something to admire, even if the album is somewhat uneven.

It is not, strictly speaking, a good record—Eminem hasn’t made one of those in a decade—but it boasts enough technical command and generates just enough arresting ideas to hold your attention.
