  1. My Dark Places doesn't just uncover shadowy corners in its subject matter-- it's also musically unkempt, stumbling along and veering off in directions most bands wouldn't even be comfortable using as B-sides or jokes.
  2. For fans of a certain kind of music, there is unlikely to be a more significant release in 2006.
  3. A stunning comeback that will alternately horrify, thrill, and satisfy fans of Television Personalities, as well as fans of honest, real, and truly independent indie rock.
  4. My Dark Places captures the offbeat brilliance that made the TVPs indie legends in the 70s, characterised by Treacy’s endearingly slapdash attitude towards singing in tune and playing in time.
  5. Repeated listenings reveal the record for what it truly is - the most human of comeback records.
  6. Television Personalities fans will be overjoyed with this collection of new songs. Newcomers will wonder how music like this ever got recorded, but bored of Mike Skinner, might rejoice in its working-class accented good humour and honesty.
  7. Q Magazine
    70
    Strangely addictive. [Mar 2006, p.110]
  8. Much of My Dark Places is uncomfortable listening, Treacy's self-pity confers an additional tragic cast on the songs and the music rattles and creaks somewhere between lo-fi and inept.
  9. Uncut
    80
Nobody else writes songs like Treacy. [Mar 2006, p.103]
  10. Spin
    58
A stark, erratic, and perversely back-loaded collection. [Mar 2006, p.96]
  11. Rolling Stone
    50
Isn't songful enough to recommend to anyone besides old fans and aspiring art rockers. [6 Apr 2006, p.69]
  12. New Musical Express (NME)
    80
A stunningly original record--harrowing and hilarious in equal amounts. [25 Feb 2006, p.32]
  13. Mojo
    50
    A clumsily executed, ghoulishly self-regarding mess. [Mar 2006, p.94]
  14. Without any previous knowledge of Treacy's work, My Dark Places could be shoved aside as an album from some bloke being different just to be different, but this is nothing new for Treacy and the Television Personalities.
  15. Under The Radar
    70
A quirky and unyieldingly unpolished set of creaky rockers, fragile ballads, and bizarre rants. [#13, p.95]
  16. The combination of Treacy’s back-story and the complexity of My Dark Places makes it hard to live with at times; it is a supremely disquieting record.
  17. Urb
    70
The Television Personalities show that they are still running strong on ideas and originality. [May 2006, p.91]
