  • Summary: This is the first album in 11 years for the English band led by the troubled Dan Treacy.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 12 out of 17
  2. Negative: 0 out of 17
  1. For fans of a certain kind of music, there is unlikely to be a more significant release in 2006.
  2. New Musical Express (NME)
    80
A stunningly original record--harrowing and hilarious in equal amounts. [25 Feb 2006, p.32]
  3. Television Personalities fans will be overjoyed with this collection of new songs. Newcomers will wonder how music like this ever got recorded, but bored of Mike Skinner, might rejoice in its working-class accented good humour and honesty.
  4. Urb
    70
The Television Personalities show that they are still running strong on ideas and originality. [May 2006, p.91]
  5. Without any previous knowledge of Treacy's work, My Dark Places could be shoved aside as an album from some bloke being different just to be different, but this is nothing new for Treacy and the Television Personalities.
  6. My Dark Places captures the offbeat brilliance that made the TVPs indie legends in the 70s, characterised by Treacy’s endearingly slapdash attitude towards singing in tune and playing in time.
  7. Much of My Dark Places is uncomfortable listening, Treacy's self-pity confers an additional tragic cast on the songs and the music rattles and creaks somewhere between lo-fi and inept.
