Feb 25, 2020Another spellbinding effort by Deacon. Listening to Mystic Familiar will make common emotions more pronounced, and touch places in your psyche long ignored.

Jul 26, 2020Every song on this album just **** slams so hard!! the transitions between each song flow so beautifully and effortless, I love how cohesive the entire record is! it’s also one of the few albums that doesn’t have any skips.

Aug 1, 2020Tight, artful, and psychedelic with electronic textures. Beautiful songwriting and melodies.

Feb 12, 2020Dan Deacon’s return into the solo world has resulted in an exuberant fifth album that leaves us craving for more of his newly honed skills. The fascinating contrast between his acoustic and electronic backdrop leads us towards an elusive higher power, while some of his lyrics bring us back down to earth.

Feb 5, 2020Like any conversation we have with ourselves, ‘Mystic Familiar’ is not simple or predictable, but does prove the power of switching off all distractions and taking the time to dig deep into what’s inside. There’s a whole other universe you might be missing.

Feb 4, 2020The best thing about Mystic Familiar is how the beautiful composition of the music reinforces the power of the lyrics' message. That the journey of this album is so personally yet universally applicable, to Deacon, and to all of us, is quite a gift.
