Another spellbinding effort by Deacon. Listening to Mystic Familiar will make common emotions more pronounced, and touch places in your psyche long ignored.

Every song on this album just **** slams so hard!! the transitions between each song flow so beautifully and effortless, I love how cohesive the entire record is! it’s also one of the few albums that doesn’t have any skips.

I took a very nice surprise to hear for the first time to Dan Deacon. His musical vision feels in constant expansion and exploration, there is intensity and cosmic sensibility. Even if sometimes his music doesn't feel too accessible, when he presents his principal thesis it can be felt in control of the musical trajectory that he wants to share and for those who hear with attention it won't be difficult to find a new world of sounds and destinies that will bring back to life your ears with authenticity.

Tight, artful, and psychedelic with electronic textures. Beautiful songwriting and melodies.

Dan Deacon’s return into the solo world has resulted in an exuberant fifth album that leaves us craving for more of his newly honed skills. The fascinating contrast between his acoustic and electronic backdrop leads us towards an elusive higher power, while some of his lyrics bring us back down to earth.
  2. Like any conversation we have with ourselves, ‘Mystic Familiar’ is not simple or predictable, but does prove the power of switching off all distractions and taking the time to dig deep into what’s inside. There’s a whole other universe you might be missing.

The best thing about Mystic Familiar is how the beautiful composition of the music reinforces the power of the lyrics' message. That the journey of this album is so personally yet universally applicable, to Deacon, and to all of us, is quite a gift.
