ChrisS.Jul 3, 2007I was slightly dissapointed at first, but once I stopped comparing it to the first album I found a very solid album in its own right with a few exceptional tracks.

jimmyhFeb 8, 2007far superior to their first album. more depth in songwriting and music but still catchy pop music. it takes a few listens to get into it but then you cant stop listening. stayed on rotation for a few months.

WillODec 25, 2006Classic album. Has everything you can ask for. Every song on here is just brilliant.

ReubenFDec 19, 2006All of a sudden, the likes of The Futureheads and Franz Ferdinand sound so so yesterday. The winds of indie fashion r fickle.

LindsayBAug 5, 2006Clever, creative, rocking post-punk with an intelligent twist. If you like vocals and harmonies (everyone in the band can sing), give it a try.

[Anonymous]Jul 21, 2006Disappointing, considering that their last album is one of my favorites. There's a few good songs, and the Area EP is a nice addition, but overall it just isn't nearly as good.

LawrencePJun 22, 2006It doesn't have the peaks of the first LP ie. Hounds Of Love, Meantime, Decent Days...but is still as catchy as sin. It's nice to see the band explore some new areas i.e. Thursday, News and Tributes, Worry About It Later. What else do you want form a strong second effort?

KonronJun 20, 2006It's not as excellent as the first, but it certainly doesn't deserve the lukewarm reviews it's been getting. It certainly lacks the instant hit that "Hounds of Love" was with me, but I won't hold it against this overall good album. The Area EP is a nice bonus, though.

ReneeJun 19, 2006It discourages me that an album this good is getting this kind of treatment while the new shite (read : most radio rock friendly) album by Sonic Youth is getting (almost united) rave reviews. Sickening really.

BenJJun 15, 2006I'm totally baffled by the cool reception this album has received by some magazines, especially from the likes of Mojo. This is a far stronger and more consistent album than their debut. Whilst that record had some amazing songs, as an album it hung together pretty badly. "News and Tributes" sounds more whole, and the highlights are plenty. This is a great album, well worth checking out.

The drawback of News and Tributes more relaxed pace, is that the underdeveloped side of their work is more exposed.
-
Entertainment WeeklyTheir trademark vigor is often missing. [16 Jun 2006, p.75]

Get past the more pedestrian fare like "Yes/No" and "Return of the Berserker," and the full scope of the Futureheads' ambition reveals itself, particularly in the poppiest track, "Skip To The End."
