  1. An overcooked vanity piece from a band inflated by praise, Odd Blood heads in every direction at once.
  2. They seem keen to hold a mirror up to familiar pop tropes, but in doing so only reveal themselves for what they are - a gang of weirdoes carrying guitars. Perversely, their eagerness to engage the mainstream attention span often seems obnoxious in itself.
  3. It’s entirely possible that the skillfully-made Odd Blood will find an entirely new bunch of listeners. Many of the old ones, like this writer, will probably just find themselves frustrated.
  4. The more tastefully formulated tracks just can’t offset the profusion of soppy lyricism and the tedium of weaker songs. Ultimately, Odd Blood reads as a well-informed but poorly executed homage to the ‘80s.
  5. Odd Blood delivers a series of earworms that are undeniably catchy but leave a legitimate question in their wake: why should we care? Yeasayer ultimately fails to answer this question, and Odd Blood sort of just runs its course unimpressively.
  6. It's all meant to sound fresh, but it doesn't always sound good.

There is nothing more invigorating than hearing a band having such fun, experimenting and playing around with their sound, teasing the quirky potential out of every track. I haven't been this excited by an album since Late of the Pier's debut. Full Review »

A word used to describe many recent albums. This is one of the few albums that actually fits that definition, as you Yeasayer brings us an album absolutely nothing like it's predecessor, which is a very good thing. The album sounds simple, yet feels complex: a paradox which will have you hitting the repeat button constantly. Full Review »
