I bought the album after I saw them perform One More Light on Jimmy Kimmel. Chester had so much emotion in his voice that, to me, it seemed like an obvious purchase. It may have been a bit hasty to buy an album after hearing one song, but after listening to the first three songs I knew it was worth every cent. This album has a sense of emotion and a feeling that the songs were written with thoughts that were very personal to the band, and they are written in such a way that you feel what they feel. Quite simply it's my favourite Linkin Park album since Minutes to Midnight. Admittedly 2017 Linkin Park is a far cry from 2000 Linkin Park, but a band's music evolves as the band matures and ages; it's just the way it is. Expand

This album isn't pop -- this is an experiment by the band. I enjoy the album, and to those who say this album sucks, then you're not a true LP fan. I really love what Linkin Park has done. It's a breather to try something different than their usual alternative rock genre. One More Light's songs are very catchy and serve as part of the mainstream. This album is literally very underrated and should deserve better from critics.

First things first, One More Light is an EPIC album by the ultimate genre-bending band, Linkin Park.

One More Light is a very meaningful and emotional album, showing us that overload of drums and guitars are not necessary to create an amazing album and to convey the deep feelings within each song. (Though, the phenomenally breathtaking vocals of frontmen Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda surely help.)
So, they have once again taken a blank canvas and have created an album from scratch, miles apart from its predecessors. It also serves as a timely reminder that these behemoths of world music are very much on top of their game.
My verdict : 10/10 (it's the highest I can give)

I don't understand everyone's shock when they told us going in that this was what the album would be like. And to everyone saying there are no guitars on this record, do you have ears? They may not be as in your face as A Line in The Sand, but they are definitely there and definitely real. I love the subtle but strong lead guitar on OML, especially the bridge which matches Chester's tone perfectly. As LP said themselves, the music was built to "support" the vocals which is exactly what happens here. I hope that people continue to give this album a chance, because if you can manage to get past style change you will surely see the beauty in this music. Keep up the great work guys!! Those who appreciate great music know Linkin Park strive to produce it.

I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but every time I hear an idiotic and untrue claim that the band has "sold out" it pushes me one step closer to the edge and... well, you know the rest..

Most of the reviews bashing this album are just complaints that it's not like the earlier albums. That's good because 'One More Light' is not supposed to live up to those. It's supposed to be an emotional album and it does an amazing job at being one. I'm not going to name it but I'm just currently listening to one of the highest rated emotional albums this year as I write this and I can tell you it doesn't hold a candle to 'One More Light'.

And for people calling them a sellout, I'd suggest watching the "Linkin Park reacts to Teens React to Linkin Park". Besides "Heavy", none of the other songs sound like any other popular songs. People just label them a sellout just because they got a female singer for one song and it just annoys me to no end that people are so quick to judge and dismiss good music just like that without thinking. "Heavy" isn't my favorite track on this album either but stop judging the entire album with such prejudice.

"One More Light" fades away from the usual heavy musical and lyrical notes for a softer, more emotional feel in what may easily be the band's best lyrical compositions yet.

But if you, like that Linkin Park is changing over Time, and really listen to the Songs it's a good record.
Outstanding Songs like One More Light, Talking to Myself and Battle Symphony are even in my Top 10 LP songs now. Not forgettable at all. The "Pop-Sound" really does fit Chesters and Mikes Voice while still preserving a lot of the typical Linkin park Sound.

In fact, some songs are really great. For example, "One more light" is one of the strongest LP songs to me in a long time, right alongside very underrated "The messenger" and "Powerless". Most other songs are at best 5/10. "Good Goodbye" is grime and rap with Mike and is pretty decent. Enough has been said about "Heavy". The talk about genres is getting old. The highlights were Heavy, Good Goodbye, Battle Symphony and Sharp Edges, the latter being the best on the album for me. Chester Bennington's vocals are as good as they've ever been, and this is very much demonstrated by his versatility on different tempo tracks. Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised by One More Light. It's definitely not a perfect album - especially not when compared to some of their best work - but it's not a bad effort either.

Tilly - I'll be the first to admit that I know very few songs by Linkin Park. Of course, I have the obvious ones all on my rock playlist, but aside from those, I know next to nothing about them. One More Light was probably an odd place for me to start delving into their extensive discography but it surprisingly wasn't a bad place. Sure, it's certainly more poppy than what I know of their music, but the decent lyrics and catchy chorus' are still very much a part of their new sound. Heavy and Good Goodbye were the highlights and obvious single choices, whereas songs like Sharp Edges and One More Light felt like potential gems dragged down by a multitude of unfortunate lyrics. It was still a really cohesive and enjoyable listen, and I wouldn't be opposed to adding all of the songs to one of my playlists - bar Sorry For Now - to see if I end up liking it more than I feel like I do right now.

I felt like it was made for me at that point in my life. I would brag about LP to ALL my friends, and blast their music in my car because I wanted them to be financially rewarded for how AWESOME their music was and wanted to get the word our about them.
With every LP album, I listen it from start to finish at least 10 times to really get a good feel of what I think of the album. One More Light has beautiful songs and meaningful lyrics, but it is MISSING THE PASSION & FIRE that makes LP different than other bands. The passion in Chester's voice was so powerful that it would give me chills from every song when I would listen to his lyrics and his passionate voice. In OML, where's the passion?
The reason HT and Meteora worked so well was because they brought the NEGATIVE lyrics with the POSITIVE UPBEAT INSTRUMENTALS. That may have been totally unintentional, but it worked and made you different than any other band out there. It was beautiful how Chester would hold his chord, and Mike would rap behind his voice.
I know we are past those days, but come on guys, do what you're good at.
    1. Chester, you have an Incredible voice filled with passion and power that gives people strength when listening to it - so use it. You have I'm incredible ability to scream for long periods of time that gives people chills!
    2. Mike, you are an extremely talented rapper who has an incredible ability to flow and make the music rhythmic so that we can bob our heads to it and smile. Also, I love the piano playing.
    3. Mr. Hahn - you are super talented at the turntables, that makes me want to freestyle - so use your skills bro.
    4. Rob you're talented at the drums and bringing in the solid beat.
    5. Dave, slap the bass bro - we need to hear you. Brad, keep bringing in the sound and energy - I know it's there - you're very talented on the guitar - so let's hear it!

Lastly, I just want to say that WE ARE DYING for you guys to create an album using your natural talents (that I listed above). Make an album FOR US (YOUR DIE-HARD FANS) who LOVE your music and sound that we grew to love. I've been anticipating this album for years but it didn't meet my expectation because of the lack of POWER and BURNING PASSION! I like when you introduce new instruments to each album, but PLEASE BRING BACK the sound that we've grown to love and appreciate. I'm not talking about nu-metal - I'm just talking about having PASSION in your songs, and beats that we can bob our heads to (so that we can play the album anywhere from the gym to our car to sitting alone in our room.

OML has good beats, cool instruments, but mostly it is TOTALLY LACKING Chester's passion, and Mike's incredible RAPPING SKILLS - PLEASE bring that for the next album - do it for your DIE-HARD FANS, like myself.

One More Light throws all of that away.
From the first synths of 'Nobody Can Save Me,' it becomes brutally clear this is going to be a textbook-definition pop album. Blinded by the unfortunate passing of Chester Bennington, fans have flocked en masse to defend this album.
For a pop album, it's a well-written gem. But unfortunately, other genres of music exist, and Linkin Park was born and raised in them. A few well-made jewels shine in the murky depths of this excruciatingly dull experience, and the title track is one of the best Linkin Park songs to date. However, the highs of this album are only highs in the context of it, and are still lows compared to previous Linkin Park works.

Unfortunately, the problems arise in the sound of the album. Whilst a few songs in particular stand out (at least to me), such as 'Nobody Can Save Me' and the titular track, which is one of the best things the band has written in their whole history, the experimentation aspect makes the album sound like the majority of what was coming out during the mid 2010s. It's really ironic, considering just three years prior, Mike spoke out against the state of the current rock scene, resulting in the release of 'The Hunting Party' which showed real promise in the band's progression. I can't hate on the album too much, though. It's not bad to listen to, it's very easy going and works well as background noise, but had Chester and Mike not been on the vocals, it really would've had almost nothing that would make it stand out against the competition.

Hopefully their next release will revitalise the band and give them new light. Mike himself already showed more promise in his own album 'Post Traumatic', which was a lot more varied and overall had a better song line-up, so I have high hopes.

Nobody Can Save Me is the worst song Linkin Park has ever made in his entire career. The 4 songs they showed before the release of the album are saved a little(except Invisible) but they arrive a moment to which they are bored. The best song is definitely Talking to Myself. It is of all the more rock has, good drum and good rhythm. By the way let's talk about something important: the drum. In this album, Rob, the drummer of the band, work as little as possible and I think now I miss him. Something that I also miss are Mike's f....ng raps. A single rap in the whole album and only lasts 30 seconds. The previous record that less rap had was Minutes to Midnight that had 2 songs with rap but those 2 songs were complete rapped by Mike. But LP forget that they have one of the best djs in the world and use him to be electronic pop junk. In a world where Mike and Mr. Han were doing songs like Lost in the Echo, With You or Waiting for the End are some of my favorites, the they arrive and they make me feel disappointed with them. Sorry for Now Mike sings it and does it very well as in songs like Roads Untraveled, A line in the Sand or Castle of Glass but completely destroys the song with stupid electronic pop music mix and a Chester rap, resembling the second part rap of Waiting for the End, that does not do it badly but we didn't need it, not even when they have one of the best rappers of the world. Halfway Right and Sharp Edges look like a Disney Channel and Nickelodeon songs. One More Light ends up liking me because its lyrics but I would have liked more that they would have tried harder to make a rock ballad or something like that and not what looks like an acoustic version of Iridescent . I never though I would criticize my idols so hard but if I do it is to realize that this album isn't good for them or for their greatest fans. I admit it, I like it, but I didn't like the things have turn. I like it, but prefer A Thousands Suns, Living Things or even Recharged that One More Light. Chester's death is tragic and heartbreaking. I feel it does add some context to some moments on this album, but growing up with linkin park and being so used to their style, this album does fall flat on it's face a lot. For me, it doesn't compare to meteora, hybrid theory or even half of what minutes to midnight had. It's a disappointing yet tragic finale to this band.

But never actually do a good job at either. Most songs are boring and predictable. However, the drum beats are catchy, but that's where the buck stops. 3 out of the 10 songs are decent, but never really hit the mark. I feel like this album should have been a spin-off as they've done before

Linkin Park has been a stable of the music scene since 1998's Hybrid Theory. They have evolved their sound with every album and that's good, it keeps things fresh. They certainly evolved their sound with this album, but in general it's just such a weak effort I can't understand what went wrong in the recording.

For context, LP lyrically has always been terrible and cliche. The actual song writing is average and unimaginative, however they've consistently made good sometimes great albums because they are artists, they're unique, and they pioneer new blends of genres. That's why this album fails. Instead of leading the pack, they're just following current trends. If someone said the Chainsmokers or Coldplay produced the album, I'd believe them.

Linkin Park brought us one of the most uninspired records ever made. A lot of The Chainsmokers, "Indie be like" and non remarkable songs over the ten album tracks, 4/10.

Back in 2003, after just having heard the then fresh Meteora my thoughts were "This is a great album, but one more record like this and HT will be wrong". And ti appears, the band had a similar understanding. Ever since then they have been "evolving". They kept on mixing different genres, whether pop/rock on MTM or indie/rock on ATS. And it did work for them more often than not.

This album needs to be taken for what it is: a mediocre pop album.
The first point: it is a pure pop album. In no way it is an experiment or an "evolving". No mix of genres here either. If you don't call it using the most tiresome pop music elements.
The second point: it is hard to review a pop album without being deep into the genre. However, this is at no point in its short 35 minutes close to Madonna, Sting, George Michael or whatever decent pop artist comes to mind. Just a pack of summer relaxing songs that are sure to be forgotten sooner than later.

Since the release of Minutes to Midnight they've delved into multiple different styles and genres but still maintained that sound that makes them unique. That sound that makes them Linkin Park. This record on the other hand, feels like a half baked attempt to try something out of their comfort zone. There are 2, maybe 3 really good songs on this thing. One More Light and Sharp Edges are some of the best songs I've heard from the band. The rest feel like they really didn't care and just mixed and mashed a bunch of synth beats together to create some generic paint-by-numbers EDM anthems. It's not the complete disaster I was expecting it to be, but it still ranks as one of the worst albums that Linkin Park has made in their career. 4/10. Expand

I wanted to like this album so badly. I grew up with Linkin Park, their first three albums being a large part of my early experience of music. That said, I recognize that that is an unreasonable thing to ask of LP. I respect their desire to explore new territory, but their new sound just feels so limp. When Thousand Suns came out, I liked most of the album, but was furious that they chose to end the album with an acoustic guitar song, something I would say seemed severely out of place on that album. LP seems to have continued in that direction, considering that so much of OML has such a slow, soft sound to it. I want to like this, but I just can't. It is lacking in personality, the only album that I remember liking whatsoever was Sorry for Now, which is a 7 at best. I wish that if LP has to change their sound so drastically, at least let it be fun. Fine, don't give me another album to headbang to, but at least give me something I could dance to and have fun with. One More Light is an album for when you want to sit around and contemplate stuff, and I can't imagine being more dissapointed in LP than getting a short album (only 35min, 10 songs) that is so lacking in personality. It doesn't rock, it isn't fun, the only word I'm left with is limp. Expand

LP really needs to reinvent itself after this album, maybe switch record label, get a midlife crisis, anything to do an 180 to get out of this crap.

Linkin Park a nu metal rock band, that exploded on the scene back in 2000, come almost 20 years later and things couldn’t be much different. Now let me start off this review by saying I do not begrudge them for changing their style or going pop, as I infrequently listen to the Bee Gees so I am no stranger to the pop scene, however the problem lies with the fact that nothing here is unique at all, there is no flavour, it is too over produced.
The album opens up with “Nobody Can Save Me” , it sets up what people can expect from the album, it starts off with generic pop sounds and it really does sound like Owl City, not a great start.
Now we come to “Good Goodbye” perhaps the most frustrating track on the album, genuinely the first half is good, the chorus is quite catchy and Mike’s rapping is pretty good but it only feels like Mike as gotten started when in verse 2 and 3 they decide to get Pusha and Stormzy to rap, totally killing the track. Mike is the rapper this IS NOT Fort Minor he should have done all the verses here.

Up next "Talking to Myself", the only track where you here the guitar and thus I clinged on to the song as much as I could. Best track on the record but that isn’t saying much.

“Battle Symphony” is next and it is okay, just a generic beat and a boring chorus really let down the track, the title alone had sooo much potential.

“Invisible” is up next, it is generic as it gets, just repeating the same word over and over and it is a chorus, yawn, come on LP you are much better than this.

“Heavy” is next and again is conforming to generic pop trend of getting a female vocalist. Song would be much better with just Chester.

“Sorry for now” is another frustrating track where the drop of the song is a bunch of annoying sounds like a kid just slamming his hand on a keyboard, again so much potential just RUINED! Lyrics and Mike’s singing are solid just ruined and let down by the drop.

“Halfway right” again is generic as all hell, nothing gripping here and they now added a bunch of “nananananana’s” again just conforming to generic pop trends.

“One more light” is a powerful song just ruined in this album, It would have worked MUCH better in an album with hard rock, but in a pop album it just doesn’t work, the song itself is good and solid vocals by Chester.
“Sharp Edges” is a pretty good track if I am honest no complaints here but just like the title track this would have been a perfect way to end a rock record not a pop-y one.
Overall vastly disappointing album, Linkin Park have lost their identity, it is like buying your favourite snack brand and then finding they changed how they made it and now it just tastes like all the other brands. Too overproduced, not enough band involvement, lacks unique-ness and memorability, generic beats and cheesy lyrics ruin this album.

The issue isn't that it's a pop effort; indeed, they get points for a brave attempt so outside of their wheelhouse. The problem is that much of One More Light is devoid of that visceral charge that previously defined much of their catalog. It's a provocative challenge that ultimately fails to satisfy.
