Nita's Jewel "One Second of Love" is an album as uneven as its title track. There is potential, but still something is not right. Vocals do not always fit into tight electronic backing which prevails, pushing the instrumental sections on the back burner. Fortunately, the album has its good points, which are more subdued compositions such as "Sister", or minimalist "Unearthly Delights".

Instead of ebullience, the disc finds footing in the hard lessons of romantic realism.

Early music is fascinating to people in a way that goes deeper than anything else, and for musicians and artists, all those early things spill out in the things we make. Gonzalez does that here in a fun and remarkable way.

Nite Jewel has blossomed into a something not too far removed from a genuine pop star. Yet you feel One Second Of Love is a promising step forward rather than the finished article.
