    If you like any of the artists involved, chances are you'll like this somehow. Bazan and Johnson balance they're songwriting approach off of each other, but the real heroes are the Kadane brothers. They're such tasteful musicians.

    Perhaps unintentionally, perhaps not, Bazan, Johnson, and the Kadanes leave us in a solemn haze by utilizing little more than two tastefully composed guitar lines. They lead us from the noise and the pain of the previous nine and a half songs, credits rolling, reminding us that the best-written music rarely requires tricks to incite its intended affect.

    The combination of the Kadanes' fraught underpinnings and Johnson's crooked harmony on "Here (Wish You Were)" and "Came With the Frame" make for some of the most unnerving work of his career. The shadow of the late Vic Chesnutt looms large as well.
