PrestonJ.Apr 21, 2008Of all their albums this is the most balanced and most true to their songwriting strengths than any other. The lyrics and singing encapsulate the feel of their self titled while the music is a throw back to the folky pop that made The Guest and Phantom Planet is Missing such a welcome departure. Though not perfect ( a few miscued songs later on the disc) a thoroughly entertaining romp.

JasonApr 20, 2008Easily their best yet, they've found a good balance between the overly poppy The Guest and the forced garage rock of their self-titled album.

CaatsApr 19, 2008great album. much better than last, which was good too. It's not the guest, but there's a good mix of enjoyable pop and more experimental styles.

VitoC.Apr 19, 2008Not quite as good as their last two, but their albums are all stellar. And at least half the songs on this one are some of the best ones they've ever made.

Even with a few stumbles, Raise the Dead is among Phantom Planet's most enjoyable albums.

Alternative PressThe moodiest moments are what ultimately make this album Phantom Planet's best. [May 2008, p.140]

The guitar rock here is loud, taut, buoyant--but stands little chance of getting inside your head.
