I listened to this album and was immediately impressed by K. Michelle's vocals. "Rebellious Soul" is a very honest and raw album. It has cool soul and r&b influences which complement K. Michelle's vocals really well. Musically I was most impressed with "Sometimes". It shows off her vocal chords the best and has that 70's classic heartbreak soul/r&b sound which I love. I think on the other tracks they didn't serve her vocals as good as the "Sometimes" track does. Either way, I loved the album, "Sometimes" just resonated with me the most. Expand

Flop moments aside though, Rebellious Soul ticks the prerequisite boxes of classic r’n'b: confessional tales of love, loss and longing sung with passion and sincerity.

    K. Michelle’s aiming for the sweaty pathos of Mary J. Blige, and sometimes, as on “Sometimes” and “Damn,” she comes close. What she’s missing is restraint.

A compact, lyrically diverse debut, Rebellious Soul makes it plain that K. Michelle should be supported enough to reverse her albums-to-mixtapes ratio.
