It's unlike anything else in Lopatin's discography, not just a bold step sideways, but something like an epistemological break from an artist whose work increasingly bears the weight of something like hegemony.
  2. Chugging, grinding, crackling, swelling, bubbling, babbling, these tracks don't sound like part of the natural world, but they do sound cognizant of the natural world.

Replica feels less dreamy, more disquieting. [Dec 2011, p.92]

  1. Most important minimalist (not really) / experimental / noise album since the Disintegration Loops. But if you're reading this you probably already know that. Expand

  2. Score: 9.1/10 A very experimental and glitchy piece of ambient influenced music. This album is rich in texture and very thought provoking. From just looking at the album cover you can feel pain, and self-hate. The music only further takes you into these feelings, expanding on them even without the use of lyrics. This is a very hard trick to pull, and this album did it superbly through most of its length. Each track gives you glimpses of feelings, jumping in and out sometimes and dragging out in other cases. It all sums up to an end where a man can no longer see himself. This album is very reminiscent of DJ Shadow's 'Endrtoducing' in sound, but features very little in the way of Hip-hop influence. All in all I would sum this up as an incredibly strong piece of experimental work. Not all the experimentations were a success, at times in this album they can be slightly irritating, but the sense of atmosphere is truly tragic and that alone makes this album worth owning. Expand

Expand
