How genres are fused effortlessly in this project really amazes me. The rural atmosphere, created by banjo, violin and Mellotron and summer seeds/ autumn leaves references and even some cow-mooing samples, is joined by more experimental sounds, which can easily fit into his last ambient album. Recommended to someone just trying to relax. Gives off a really chill vibe. It's nothing new for Bibio, but returning to these sounds reveal a new level of refinement to his craft. Yet as vague and overcrowded that stream tends to get, Bibio stands idiosyncratically for his unwavering ambition in sound and occasionally outstanding songwriting. It's a little bloated at over 50 minutes, but it stays relatively consistent throughout (w/ some highlights as well). If you want something with a punch, I would look elsewhere. But if those two things didn't steer you away, give this thing a shot. Expand

Ribbons feels almost like a homecoming. [Jul 2019, p.106]

Ribbons is by no means a stand-out album from an illustrious career and it is not the most memorable of works, but it is a solid, enjoyable folk listen that is perfect for optimism in the sunshine, and, hell, we all need a bit of that right now.

The back half of tracks plays out like a rehashing of the first half more than an expansion on them, and Ribbons suffers from it. ... Still, the inviting nature of this record is well worth the time.
