Vast and breathtaking, RIITIIR is simply stellar.

Once again, Enslaved have produced music that kicks slavish notions of genre limitations into touch. [29 Sep 2012, p.54]

RIITIIR is a complex, schizophrenic work, verging on the overly sensorial at points, leaving the listener feeling as if they've been repeatedly bashed over the head with a really clever hammer.

A restless and sometimes laborious album that attempts to spotlight all of Enslaved's parts in one very overbearing package.

Unfortunately, every song ends up sounding too similar, even as the band breaks, as always, from black metal's norms.

It delivers patches of sheer brilliance, but the overwhelming urge is to ask them to cut to the chase. [Dec 2012, p.109]

Phenomenal album. Breaks every expectation of what Black Metal should, and can, be. Don't confuse apparent repetition of song structures on this album for unoriginality here. Instead, it's Enslaved simply proving their dominance in the genre they spend all other parts of the album redefining. Collapse
